Hey everyone, I figured this would be the most appropriate section to create a thread like this.

    Anyway....

I'm currently a first semester masters student at Suffolk university in Boston and I work at the school during the semester, which is slowly coming to an end. I recently accepted a job with the department of state (I got lucky, I've been trying to get employed with them for 5 years). I have to go through a background check in order to receive a secret security clearance, and there is no way to know how long that is going to take. Average time is 3-4 months.

I was thinking about becoming an Uber driver for the summer, for at most a couple of days during the week. I have a 2012 double cab, so technically the truck meets the qualifications.

Do any of you drive for Uber in your tacomas? I'm averaging about 17-19 MPG and when I'm lucky I'll hit 20 depending on how I drive. I know people that drive with uber and say it's pretty good money. It would only be for a couple of months, either when I'm granted a clearance or when school starts up. I don't mind racking up mileage because it's a Toyota and I don't plan on selling it.

Also, I think people would enjoy getting picked up in this thing!

Couple of my friends did uber in Boston, from my understanding it kinda sucks in the summer because all the students are gone

The only thing that you may want to consider is if someone were to try and pull some something, like rob you, and you have to defend yourself and get police involved. Sounds like with your line of work, you don't want that kind of attention.
Then again, I'm a glass half empty kind of guy.

I actually thought about that as well. But there are a lot of corporate junkies in Boston that need to get across town for a lunch meeting, and a lot of people in my town use uber including me to get to the local bars. I would never work during times when people would be leaving the bars....not risking some drunk asshole puking in the back seat haha

Yeah you're right. I would mostly be doing it during the day and in the city, but who knows though. Anything can happen

Double cab backseat room sucks. I have one. Not the greatest vehicle to use as an Uber.

I personally don't think it's that bad. Granted, it's not a Prius or an accord. But if it was just one person to pick up I could move the passenger side up giving them a good amount of room

That's genius. Would be pretty cool to have for beach cruises

Yeah. Basically you can fit one other person comfortably. The backseat behind me when Im driving is a sort of torture device unless you are a child or short. The passenger side is a little better due to no steering wheel for front seat, but not ideal for carrying multiple people.

True. I'm not too tall so if a person sat behind me it wouldn't be too bad. I'll put on their favorite XM station to take their mind off it

It's not a limousine, but it's definitely not bad. I'm 6' and I fit fine in the back with the front seat in my driving position.

It's definitely do-able. Most of my uber rides have been in cars with larger back seat. However most have also been when im hammered and prolly wouldnt mind a small back seat. Go for it. Can make some decent money that way.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
This might be an interesting side gig.

At least with the Tacoma you have traffic options in case you need to hop a curb or or go around traffic jams through open lots and such.
