It was out of town dealership and I had to call to set up an appointment. When I got there, they had just finished "detailing" it so it smelled great. It was 24 - 48 hours later I noticed the smell. I should have known it was too good to be true.

As a couple people have said, an ozone generator is the best solution. You have to attack a couple of different angles.

First (which it seems you have done) is to clean all surfaces, vacuum, basically remove all dust particles which are a major carrier of scent. There's places such as inside the ventilation system and inside the seats that carry a lot of dust. If you steam clean your seat, you might be surprised how much dirt and dust it collects over time.

Second is to try and neutralize remaining odors. Best way to do this is with the ozone generator. I put it in the car and leave it on for about 15-20 minutes while running the ventilation on recirc to neutralize odors in your ventilation system. Ozone will kill molds as well.

Last (optional) is to put some air freshener in your car.

Hope it all works out well for you and some of this info helps. Enjoy your truck.

I have put everything (minus carpet) back together for state inspection tomorrow. No change at all with the smell. Everytime I think progress is made, smell returns within 2 hours.

I did pull the entire headlined and nothing wrong there. I was unable to pull AC out of the truck due to freon piping but with exploratory measures determined that the AC unit is the best smelling part of the truck right now :).

Ozone generator. Leave it in all night, then keep doing that for a couple of days. I bought my old car from a smoker. Took about a week, now, zero smell. Trust me, the ozone machine works. Bought mine on eBay for about $500.

Smell was still there with all seats pulled and in my living room and my carpet pulled and in the garage for a couple days. Even had all the plastics out in the garage as well.

Would you by any chance know how to remove the blower motor without pulling the entire AC unit? I would love to pull it and give it a good cleaning but I can't figure out how to remove it sans another teardown :(

Leave it parked in a bad neighborhood with a spare key on the seat and hope whoever steals the truck totals it.

    Ha ha ha. Tempting.

Pudge, I took off the blower (4 minute job) and it was actually pretty damn clean. Wiped down the blades and removed a pine needle or two. Smelled fine. I just finished putting the truck back together. All that is left is the back seat.

All smells have to go away eventually, right? I mean, Everything's Eventual. I have this Made in China gel Odor Obsorber / Ocean Breeze dish that is hiding under the seat. If working means that I don't smell the bad odor anymore then it is working. However my truck smells like a Bath and Body store.

Goflight and Penguins, I am currently in negotiations with the wife about purchasing an Ozone Generator. Her first answer was "Hell No". Second answer was "Why" which isn't a No :D

How about checking a rental place near you for one? I can understand how frustrating this can be... used to deal used cars and got a few that "smelled fine" for a day...

    Good luck

    Check Build Thread!!
So, the headliner is the whole roof right? like the molded fabric above your head?? just never heard that work before.

Read the whole thread, I can't think of anything, you've already torn the whole truck apart.. could it be in the backseat maybe?? or behind it?
