    Just checking..

I got quoted $850 labor, and a 5 hour job from a Toyota dealer. I get the time length..but $170 an hour labor?

    This sounds a bit excessive..

    sound right to you?

I have the tools, the space, but lacking in the confidence..
however, I think for $850 I'll find the confidence to swap them myself.

That sounds right on par with normal dealership rates. Theres no flex on rates, you pay that flat hourly minimum. My dealer charges the same rates for any work you need done.

An independent shop would almost certainly charge less than the dealer but DIY is good for the soul. Plenty of resources and helpful people here if you're having trouble

If you have a floor jack and stands, and tools, including a torque wrench, it’s not too difficult. There are some great YouTube videos out there that can walk you through the replacement. The biggest problem is usually rusted bolts and stuck parts.

Generally a GOOD labor install will be about $125/hr... if its much cheaper than I would be concerned about the quality of install.

He did my lift.. and he'd be the one to call, but it's a 180 mile round trip for me and the latter half would be without an alignment on my new shoes so I was trying to get it done where I could have minimal travel to get an alignment, or just get it all done at one shop (the dealer).

I've fought with this for 2 weeks now..trust me. He was first thought..

I'm just gonna bite the bullet and do it..stay tuned for a comical thread next week. It's always an adventure when I try to do something to a vehicle.

Does that price include an alignment? They're stupid simple to install.

Pop balljoint from spindle, bend sheet metal in front of bolt, loosen bolt and pull up into engine bay.

Put new UCA in place, cuss 60 times because you only have two hands and need 3 to thread the bolt back through the bushings and washers.. finish threading bolt, tighten bolt.

Re-attach balljoint, do other side, go for alignment.

Edit: With a lift anything beyond 2 hours is criminal. I think I did mine in 2 hours while drinking and sitting on concrete.

I did mine in less than 30mins per side. Stupid simple to do. Getting the bushings and washers to go in correctly was the biggest pain in the ass. Def needed a third arm for that but managed to get it done.

The trick is a series of punches or screwdrivers to hammer the bolt in and out.

Also remember to disconnect the wiring harness from the sheet metal (plastic push tabs inside the wheel well) before driving the bolt out.

Getting the UCA bolts out and back in is a PITA, but nothing anyone with basic tools cannot do.

Local shop told me 850 for f/r shocks and control arms with alignment and I thought it was expensive lol.
