Just got a new Tacoma trd sport 4x4 and will be getting a 2.5 inch lift in a few weeks with the 5100 Bilsteins all around plus the AAL

Is adding a UCA completely necessary or even beneficial or do i even bother?

I have seen on multiple forums regarding getting the UCA on 3” lift or higher. Don’t plan on doing much crazy off roading..

(gonna be running on 275/70/17 tires with some 17x8.5 rims if that matters)

I recommend getting them. Makes alignment and adding caster much easier.

I have a similar setup. OEM UCA's are fine.

    I don’t think you’ll be getting 2.5” out of 5100s.

I would recommend getting them as well. It makes dialing in caster so much easier and more precise. I installed SPC's when I did my 6112's and the the ride of my truck compared to a buddies truck with the exact same setup and alignment specs is a lot smoother and when going over speed bumps and rail road tracks. My front end feels like it flows over the irregularities whereas his just feels kind of "bound up" when the suspension cycles downward.

I’ve been told anything over 3 inches requires aftermarket UCAs. If it was installed at a shop, it would probably be a liability issue if it’s not installed. If you’re installing it yourself then it’s up to you if you want aftermarket UCAs or not.

As others have mentioned, totally necessary? NO. It does make alignment much easier. If $$ isn't a big deal I'd say do it! Good luck bud.

I got UCA’s for my 2.5 inch lift fo the reasons stated above and I’m very happy I did.

what's the reason for this if the alignment is the same? Isn’t that what uca’s do? Allow better alignment? I’m just not clear on the purpose of getting uca’s if you can align the truck to specs on the stock ones.

Bilsteins 5100s on the top setting, 4runner Gray TRD Pro Sema wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s, Sumo Bump stops, TRD exhaust, ECGS Clamshell bushing, 1/4 shim for the lean and one inch rear block, OEM Pro grill and garnish OEM TRD Skid plate, TRD CAI, Demon Brackets, Rigid Industries Pro fog lights, OEM Trail Rails sidebars, Diode Dynamics LED SL1 high and low beam lights, OEM Roof racks, Clazzio leather heated seats, Remote Start, TRD Pro shift knob, tinted windows, Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp for the headunit and sub and amp combo, OEM Puddle lights, OEM tailgate lock, OEM bed mat, LED interior lights, OEM blackout kit for letters, JLT catch can, upgraded 27F toyota True Start battery, Vleds led tail light kit with Pro tail lights, OEM Rave4 side mirrors with convex spotters, just to name a few mods.
Your not going to get 2.5 out of the 5100s up front. A good alignment is all you need, OEM control arms are fine and it works well for me as I'm on the 5th setting 5100s, running 285s on 4Runner SEMA wheels. Ride is great, not rubbing or trimming. I did have a 1/4 spacer for the lean, I got right at 2 inches up front.

Am I the only one that thinks all UCA's are far too expensive for what you're truly getting? From a fabrication/construction/materials standpoint I don't see where all the money is at. I can get 4 Bilstein 5100's for $250 less than a good set of UCA's? That just doesn't seem right to me. :rofl:Please call me out if I'm totally tripping

One must remember the liability that comes with making parts. Small shops that don’t make thousands of parts per year get a rather hard insurance hit.

Adjustable UCAs are great for dialing in that alignment when running oversized tires and moving them (wheel) forward to help eliminate rubbing.

Nah you are right, 100%. Most brands used to be much cheaper. Now they are just raking in the dough because they know people are going to buy. Pretty messed up.
