So I came close to pulling the trigger on the UDR short shifter just got notified they are back in stock, however, I was lookin at the more pricey TRD short shifter and thinking of getting the actual Toyota part instead of an aftermarket one. What do yall recommend? How are the two different besides the name brand? Thank you.

The TRD shifter has a spacer the lifts the pivot point up, and comes with a new shifter (the added cost, and because OEM). So the throw is shorter without changing the height of the shift knob in relation to the stock shifter.

I think the URD kit uses a thicker spacer, and adds an extension to the stock shifter. So the throw is a little shorter than the TRD, but the shift knob sits a little higher compared to the stock setup.

@Vinchez78 Which one is better or recommended is a matter of preference. I had the TRD shifter and was happy with it. Both will improve the shifting feel. One thing to note is that sliding it into reverse with the TRD shifter will actively take a little more effort over stock, and the URD slightly more than that, but will become second nature in no time.

(I see you had trouble quoting my message)

Ahh many thanks for your reply brother, I think I'll lean more towards the actual Toyota part more so than aftermarket, and yes, I had trouble quoting your message, lol

Keep in mind, sometimes the synchro sleeves can wear a little faster due to the more aggressive leverage. Not guaranteed to happen but it is a possibility

If it fit the stock shifter, I don't see why not. Threads are the same.

Isn't this more an issue for people who rest their hand on the shifter while driving?

The purpose of a short throw shifter is to get the gears engaged quicker. That creates potential for forced engagement

I installed the TRD Shifter immediately after I bought my truck. November 2006. Never had a problem. I had originally bought the urd Shifter but for some reason I never installed it. I am not sure what happened to my URD Shifter.

Another option is the Hurst core ss, which is the one I got. It replaces the whole shifter arm & knob. So you loose the cushioning affect of the stock arm so, there's some noise and vibration. It's not horrible, I've gotten used to it, reminds me not to rest my hand on the knob.

Thanks fellas for all your input, I'll make a decision this weekend if I'm going to pull the trigger on it, I'm definitely leaning towards the TRD not so much the URD, so I'll let yall know, thanks again.
