So I am a new user and this is one of my first posts. I purchase a 17 DCLB OR the day after thanksgiving and on 12/16 it was backed into by someone towing a trailer at a gas station (flip flop caught under accel) anyways there was front end damage including the bumper skin and the AC condensor mostly stuff I would not worry too much about long term, but today they told me the lower front tie bar (radiator support) was also replaced. This is a cut and weld in part. Should I worry about anything long term? I am already thinking about going after the person for demissioned value since I only have about 1000 miles on the car. Thoughts on the lower tie bar replacement?

    It's fine.

Not sure diminished value for a couple bolt ons and a radiator support is worth pursuing.

Just check to make sure it's been properly painted over with the black. Otherwise, it'll rust out and cause unforeseeable problems when the rust cancer takes over. This is assuming you can see the portion that was replaced and the related welds.

I would agree except for the fact I have not even made the first payment on the car and it now has a 3.5k repair on it.

You can come here and find a lot of useful information, but you'll have a hard time not getting straight answers from everybody. It sucks to be in your shoes, sure.. but you don't get paid for whining. If your state allows diminished value claims (not all do), you can decide if your time and expense to get what is a marginal dollar amount for simple repair is worth it to you.

I think you'll be okay with a new radiator support, competently installed and under warranty.

Insurance is covering it (assumedly), so if you're not happy with the repair, push for it to be fixed to your satisfaction. Long term, a weld in part is just as good as a weld in part, particularly with a radiator support.

Personally I would pursue it. The accident will, show up on Carfax and therefore affect the value of your vehicle.

Seriously though that sucks man. Diminished value doesn't pay well. You have to get hard evidence that you lost value (quotes) then the insurance company MIGHT agree to pay you 25% of that in some cases.

    How do you know?

The only stuff that shows up on CarFax is stuff voluntarily submitted to CarFax. CarFax is a privately owned business, it isn't anything special. Thousands of cars are repaired on a daily basis and CarFax has no fucking clue, because there's nothing that says CarFax means shit.

CarFax means a lot to consumers, which is how they make their money - people buying reports. Body shops couldn't give a shit.

By the time you hire a Lawyer and use your time and energy you will be lucky to break even, honestly probably not worth it.

    I gotchu, boo.

You're going to see a wide range of replies, I'm sure. I wouldn't pay attention to those quacking about CarFax anymore than I'd pay attention to those saying "park it on front of Toyota with a big sign on it."

Reality dictates one thing, and internet retardery dictates another. You can at best, split the middle and see what happens or just be confident in a good repair. This is 2017, after all.. I know that might not mean much in some regards, but collision repair and accuracy are far better than they've ever been. A radiator support is pretty minor, and welding it in (as it was originally) is nothing to be overly concerned about. I don't think the diminished value claim is going to be worth pursuing, for reasons already posted by others.

On another note, welcome to TW.

Looks pretty benign, but that doesnt mean someone wont try to use it as a bargaining chip. Definitely keep the photos stored in your records to prove how minimal the damage was to a potential buyer.

I was in an insurance shop years ago and they were literally slicing a CR-V in half to weld on another rear end. Literally cut in half. Your damage is nothing. 10 years from now if you were trading it in a dealer won't even care about that. And if your truck is well maintained a private buyer won't sweat it either. Just enjoy the ride and move on imo.
