Someone got me while the truck was parked overnight. Thankfully he was a decent person and left a note. Got a check from his insurance. Now just waiting on my Pelfreybuilt HC. Wasn't planning on doing the rear bumper for a while but shit happens.

It's the only economical way to fix it. A body shop is going to charge at least $1,000 to fix that. Probably closer to $1,500. PDR is for baseball size dents. Even if you can get a PDR guy to tackle it, it's going to be far from perfect and he still has to buy a flare. A nice complete bedside from a wrecking yard should be $400 to $500 and the OP can bolt it on himself in a few hours. Not to mention the appreciation he will get from his wife for taking on the project and fixing her screw up.

Yeah, I skimmed over it last night. Trouble is, a lot of it is like Greek to me.

If I can avoid pulling the side off I'd like to. I'm going to try some shops today for estimates.

If I have to go with a new side, what years are compatible with my 2011? On car-part right now and I'm looking at a 2012 TRDS, even silver, bedside right now. $750. Looks identical. Just don't know if holes, etc. are the same from year-to-year.

    Sent an inquiry.

ETA: So, guessing since you said to get it, it'll fit fine on my '11? :fingerscrossed:

They will have grades and hours of damage listed. You want A grade and 0 hours of damage. Also avoid any that say NIQ (not insurance quality) Some will have pics. Some won't. Some will list color, some won't. Use the sort by distance from your zip code. Find one that's close enough to pick up in person and call them. After you find a perfect one, you might be able to hagle on price a little bit. It never hurts to try.

Just kidding, it should fit. 2005-2015 are all the same back at that end of the truck

As long as it's 5' bed with a flare, it'll fit.

Ok guys, it's definitely the short box and has the flare. Damage code is "000" and part grade is "A0" so looks good.

Down side is it's almost 1200 miles from me in CA. Sent an email asking how much shipping would be. I have to make a trip to CA this Summer and will be pulling a trailer back with me, but man, it's still a few months off. Life. LOL

I would keep looking. There's too much chance of it getting damaged in shipping. Silver is such a comon color that there's bound to be one show up closer. Asking that wrecking yard to hold it for you is a bit iffy. What if they hold it for you and you get there and there's damage?

Good point. And for the money I would spend in shipping, or driving + gas + etc, I'd be better off paying a shop locally.

    Update:

Hit four shops: two smaller-ish and two dealers (one is my buddy's employer, a Mazda dealer). All came in around $1900. The fender flare alone gave everyone a "holy ****" response, lol. As of now, I'm 99% sure I'm just going to pay a shop to do it. I think I could do it on my own, but honestly, there's so many moving parts to this problem that I just don't want to deal with the hassle.

For kicks, I stopped by the Toyota dealership to "look." HA!, I say. Test drove a 2017 Tacoma TRDS DCLB with 15k miles and a 2016 Tundra TRD OR Limited with 10k miles. Loved the Taco, like the Tundra. Sadly, wifey and I agree that a new truck will probably need to be a full-size. Not sure how long the kids will want to ride in the Tacoma's smaller back seat.

So that's where it's at for now!

You can also look at hollanderparts.com as that is another salvage yard search engine. I've found many yards aren't on both search engines so I search each.
