I have a 2020 with 30k on it. Just got it a month ago from dealer. Waiting to hear back about how to figure out the warranty ,
But curious …. They asked if I had just added gas or anything ….
Funny part is, I just filled up week ago but had added the chevron
Fuel system cleaner … and part of me is wondering if that was a stupid idea …. anyone thrown a code over something so dumb? Trucks runs perfect but just has the light on solid (not flashing )

Techron is not going throw a code that I know of. Good stuff, used it for years. That info doesn't sound like your didn't put the cap back on correctly but go check.
Do you have a cheap $20 OBD reader and free or $5 torque pro app? Really nice to have. Good luck.

I use Techron additive all the with time no issues. You can always try disconnecting the negative battery cable and then connecting again to see if light comes back on.

Autozone will check codes for free. Have them plug into the obd2 port and tell you the code, then google it to see what it is and what the recommended fixes are. Have you unscrewed and rescrewed your gas cap back on securely?

    A) don't throw additives into your fuel tank. The truck doesn't need it.

    B) that's a straight-to-dealer message. Especially since you don't know the history of the truck. Take advantage of that warranty, and ask for a copy of the codes they pulled.

    Thanks
I’ll give it a shot. The truck has a warranty so I’m hoping it’s something dumb simple
I’d rather have a facepalm I’m a dingus moment than something actually being wrong

Isn't Techron supposed to help the engine clean leading to better operating conditions? I get nothing will likely happen for a really long time, but isn't it better to use some every now and then for maintenance?

Yes, a fuel system cleaner is a good maintenance item each oil change. It won't throw any codes. It's just good sense.

Disagree. It's holistic feel-goodery in a bottle. Doesn't hurt the engine, but it doesn't help either. Most gas blends already have detergents in them, and it still doesn't change up or extend the maintenance schedule.

Also, if it significantly improved engine longevity, it would be recommended in the manual. Source:"If the corps wanted me to have a wife, they'd have issued me one." :cookiemonster:

I mean the Corps did also tell us to stand out in the pissing rain when there were perfectly good tents already setup. So....

gasoline is already a great cleaner, in fact before it was used as fuel it was primarily a solvent/cleaner. Nothing in those bottles is going to do a better job cleaning than gasoline already does.

Not entirely true. In everyday situations, gasoline with detergents will keep your system clean, but
in certain situations a cleaner is required. I had a motorcycle that, for reasons still unknown, ended up
with some very fouled valves. It took two tanks, with the recommended dose of Chevron mixed in, to
put a dent in the build up. After the third tank with Chevron, the valves were acceptably clean.

The Techron bottle recommends adding some every 3,000 miles. That seems too soon. What would you think is an adequate interval to add it?

Last two Tacoma's both had 300+K both survived well on plain old regular gasoline. It's not too hard to convince people snake oil is good for your ride.

$5 to throw some fuel cleaner in every 3000 miles for the possibility of it helping is good enough for me.

I've tried fuel system cleaners and never saw much difference. The thing that made the biggest difference for me was a nice, long 19 hour drive out west. By the time I got to Wyoming I thought the truck died at stop lights since the idle was so smooth.
