Man, I DO NOT want to have to redo either of these diffs on the truck. Trying to make perfect while up on a stand.

Thanks Yukon! Master shims for air locker completely fucked. So, this project is on hold.

Think pinion may be too close.

What's your Backlash right now? Looks like pinion is too deep in the ring gear, and want that pattern a bit closer to the toe of the ring gear.
Its close though, because pattern isn't bad.

Looks much better, pattern is slightly wider and not as deep in the ring gear.

I’m gonna press bearings on like that I think. I had to redo the pinion preload for some reason. I’ve had it on and off about 30 times today.

you think I need to set pinion back more? That last pattern seemed like if I took more it would just make the surface area smaller.

I think the ring gear looks great now, wider contact patch.
What's your pattern on the pinion look like? Did it change any with the .02 removed?

Everything was money. I swapped the setup race w press in and pressed carrier bearing and the carrier backlash is at 3 in some spots and 5/6 in others. Something is def not right. I think the race isn’t seated.

Pinion preload also shot up from 15 to 30 which seamed dramatic w just a race and seal.

had to leave so gonna try to spend some time on it tomorrow.

Sounds like there's a shaving or something hanging a roller on the bearing. Should be easy to see with (hopefully small to no scoring). Also, reading pinion preload without the pinion seal on? Sounded like your using setup parts before final install.

The seal bumps pinion preload 1-2 inch lbs. I checked it prior to installing it and the preload was like 29 and went to 30. I just keep it low to start. You can’t have everything setup on these ford 60’s. Pinion preload is 20-35 so I started at 15. I was expecting it to go to 25.

Backlash can change w the one new bearing vs the setup bearing I had in but it’s the fact that it’s different around the ring.

Either the shims on carrier bearing got cock eyed on the press, race is not seated or some scrap metal from new yoke and nut flew in there like you suggested. Hope it’s just the carrier bearing.

@ToyRyd04 Good call. Pinion is way smoother. This was stuck under pinion and a roller. Resetting carrier preload now. Hope that was part of the problem.

just found a second. Keep spraying and gravity draining then adding oil. Hope no more. Idk wtf it’s from though. Looks like chrome flake.
