I prefer the cold, but laying on a garage floor in February in a garage that is maybe 15* sucks. That floor sucks the heat out of you, all the tools are ice cold etc.... Midwest/upper east coast humid cold is different than most of lower elevation California "I'll toss a wind breaker on because it's 40*" cold.

I did a trans swap in February when I was back in Illinois in my garage and man it sucked ass. I was using a borrowed torpedo heater that heated the garage up to maybe 40* for 10mins at a time and I kept the door cracked because the person I borrowed it from had all the waste shit from his garage drain pans in it.

I lived and worked in Chitown; that cold wind is piercing.

Laughed because of where he is located; we live 15mins from each other and if anything it has and will never get cold here

    Hey hey buddy....
You working out of your insulated garage vs me working out of my metal, not insulated shack. Lol. The only thing that keeps me from the element is a janky sheet metal and the howling wind still passes through with all the open slot. So yes, it gets cold. Sometimes, it feels colder in the shack vs standing outside of the shack.

@Yota X keep at it! This thread is why it has taken me 17yrs to get my Tacoma to where it's at now instead of one shot LOL!! What is always left out of build threads, which you have captured, is the little shit that TAKES FOREVER!! Very few people ever post up the bracket that took them 17hrs and 3 different revisions to make, or the u joint you dicked with all afternoon because the universe hates you, that you then fix in 20mins after work the next day. It's mostly "hey I cut the IFS off on Friday and on Sunday I'm flexing the truck out checking for clearance of my 40s" type posts. Not saying that Sunday was 4months later lol!

I go back and read my SAS swap posts and it reads like a man physiologically breaking down in real time as I was making damn near daily update posts. I like that you are doing the same, makes for an entertaining read!:D

Salinas was always colder and I worked on all my cars on the uneven ground, full exposure (no garage, no shed, nothing) :luvya:

Not from all the pictures I'm seeing..... All I see is a nice, well kept, clean and organized garage. So shinny, I wouldn't feel ease dripping oil all over the floor :D

This is the truth, best advise is don't stop but rather keep it moving by working on something completely different. There were points where I was exhausted with cutting and fabbing metal that I just stopped, and decided to work on the hydro assist and then an overhaul on electrical work, then came back. Some tasks are just mind numbing when progress isn't going fast enough.

Wait until it rolls and drive... the little sh1t such as ebrake, rock light, etc will be tedious.

Shit, i feel ya. I started my build Jan 19. No heat. In north NJ.

Yeah, I’ve gotten my ass kicked. Had to do things over multiple times. Until recently, every bracket I welded had to be cut off.

Speaking of brakes. I bought something super cool that I am prob more excited about than the turbo. Gonna put 2 of these side by side. One to each rear caliper. Gonna cut them down so not so bulky. I’ll have a cutter brake to deal w the turning radius and a full rear lock setup for when I want to drift that fucker and I will def be drifting it!

Coming from someone who has rear cutting brakes with two levers, just do one that locks up both rear wheels. Dual levers take up so much space and they do about the same once you take the rear out and do front digs.

Shit. I didn’t even know you had them! I can’t do 1 and have cut and both rear though. Your saying when the rears are both locked up it will still dig in place?? Or dig to the side I mean?

I have some pictures in my build. But it’s one unit with two levers. One input and two output for each rear caliper. If you can’t do front digs they’re useless. When you take the rear out, I notice little to no difference if I’m dragging both rear tires or just the inside one. And 90% of the time, I have to preload the caliper with the foot brake and then pull the lever and if it’s in hard packed dirt, it won’t lock. Sand or if I can hook the tire on a rock, I can get it to lock and drag.

with these long wheelbases I think they’re useful but don’t think it’s worth the loss of room and that extra lever to have one for each. Or if your set on one for each rear caliper get a lever that pull is one side and push is the other.

That is a bonus. I want a hydro lock on rears so I can slide it.

I actually only bought one cause I’m broke and was gonna plumb it for 2 and add later. But, I trust your advice. Just try one w rear lock and see how it works. They are bulky.

idk how I didn’t see that. Your build thread is big. Lol

Ford axle is fucking my life. Spent 3 hours getting completely beat up trying to figure out why the axles won’t go in all the way. Ended up ratchet strapping the fucker in to clear the seal which I think was the problem. Seems ok. We’ll see. Really don’t give a fuck at this point.
