I have a stock Taco with 2.7 (extended/6 foot bed 4wd) and need to tow a Uhaul trailer. Theyre asking my hitch rating ? Has anyone towed a 4 x 8 or 5 x 8 Uhaul with a 4 banger ? how was it

I can tell you the V6 was a dog in the mountains. I was probably going 35 with the 5x8. If you are local it's probably fine. Freeway is gonna suck. Plus I don't know if you have the extra trans cooler.

Tow ratings should be in the manual.

Really depends what you load in it, could tow an empty 4x8 with a corolla

You hitch rating should be printed on the hitch you bought. The truck doesn’t come with a hitch from the factory. Are you sure they didn’t ask for your towing capacity?

Towed a couple of Uhaul 5x8 with my 2.7 just this month. They're light trailers, so the truck had no issues around town or on the highway at 70, even when loaded. Hitch rating depends on the hitch that you bought for it. Our tow rating is 3,500 pounds, but my hitch rating is for 6,000 pounds.

Hitch (tongue) rating vs toe rating are vastly different.

Tongue rating on the 2.7 is 350lbs.
Toe rating on the 2.7 is 3500lbs.

Make sure you clarify what they are asking.

one his how much weight the hitch (or tongue) can handle, the other how much the truck can safely pull (or stop).

Hitch rating to me means the rating of the hitch itself regardless of what truck it’s attached to, but it seems like that’s not how everyone uses the term.

    You're really not wrong.

But like your link says... The hitch rating is still whatever the lowest rating of any one part of your system is.

Remember... Uhual isn't really putting this information out there for the kind of people that know the difference between hitch rating, ball rating, Gvwr, etc.
