What’s the largest uhaul cargo trailer that you guys recommended for a 2001 Tacoma 3.4 4x4 w/tow package? 5x8ft, 5x10ft, or 6x12ft? Pulling from Texas to South Carolina.
I’m sure this has been talked about, but I don’t feel like sifting through the extra side bar.

The loaded weight is what matters, and of course if the trailer has brakes and equalizer options.

All of them will act as parachutes and hammer your MPG.

Not sure about the exact weight, but it would be a living room and bedrooms worth of furniture. Nothing too heavy. A bed, couch, chair and an entertainment center/shelf thing. I’m expecting horrible mpg.

I would go to the uhaul website to find out. They have limits of what you can rent based on what vehicle is doing the towing.

I don't know if this will help, but when I went there to rent a trailer they told me my truck with just an inch and half lift was too high for their trailers. We were renting one of those POD types. We had to rent one of their f150s to haul it. Even when I backed it up to one their trucks to show them it was lower than theirs they wouldn't budge. And this was the mgr not just a kid behind the counter. Hope you have better luck!

    - I was only towing this thing about eight miles!

I don't mean to ramble on or change the thread topic too much, but have you considered just buying a cheap utility trailer for the move and then selling it when you're done? Uhaul usually charges a lot for point-to-point moves. I've made 5-6 trips across the US hauling crap. Every time I've looked at renting a Uhaul trailer, it's actually been cheaper to buy a used trailer from someone, do the move, and sell the trailer afterwards. I've bought and sold three trailers doing this, LOL.

I didn't even consider one. We were in a rush. The rental was cheap. I think it was only about twenty bucks. But it still pissed me off.

I’ll have to price it out and do some shopping around. The move won’t be until the summer. Just trying to plan ahead. Maybe I’ll take my truck to uhaul sometime next month just to make sure I can rent one.

I towed 4000 lbs with a 6x12 uhaul. On steep grades my 3.4L struggled a little. 1500 mile journey wasn’t too bad.

*Not the answer you are looking for... but, I would recommend getting a quote for a shipping pod. Every time I have rented from moving/rental companies it's a PITA.
Buying a used trailer and selling is a nice idea too, if you don't have to make a trip to DMV.
