Hi we have a organizer from Mountainsmith and use it in all of our trips for 4 years and the quality and durability is great. We use it for storing our clothes each member of the family gets on unit and one is for rainwear so we like it a lot. We also use the units separately for shorter trips in the car and for transporting the kids clothes to and from kinder garden.

Yeah, its a pretty special place. I dont get up there near as often as I should.

I have a Garmin CS60x. Its a few years old, but I got it for about $300. I dont use it in the trucks or car, but its pretty good for hiking and such, plus they make handle bar mounts for them so I can put it on my quad. It has enough stuff that I have never wished it had more. The only downside is it comes with a very, very basic map, and you have to buy maps and load them onto memory cards. I got a Nevada/N. Cal. off Amazon for about $60.

hmmm....that doesn't sound very good. and i would be packing a variety of things...i thought about getting 2 of those totes, one ot replace my toolbox and stay in the truck all the time (with my emergency supplies, recovery supplies, and tie downs) and one to shuttle camping and hiking gear back and forth (clothes, dry foods)

i figured the soft storage would be a little more gentle on the truck. i'm more worried about damage to it than anything else

 thanks for the info! I don't expect it to be used and abused, I take care of my stuff, but i want to get something that is fairly sturdy.

great info as well, thank you!

my point exactly. and a trip can be a matter of survival too since so many people seem to be unable to operate a shopping cart without crashing into something!

    LOL me too!

soooo....I was shopping around a little bit ago for gear storage when steepandcheap.com offered up the Kelty camp hauler for $14.99. Which I also happened to be looking at at that very moment on Amazon.com for $35. I ordered 2 from sac.com...

    They're both run by Backcountry.com.

I check GearScan.com about every half hour. I has all the Backcountry run sites (SAC, WhiskeyMilitia, ChainLove, BonkTown) and their current deals. It also has the "deal of the day" at places like REI, Ramsey Outdoors, etc.

They're like Woot for the outdoors community. And a good source of drain on my bank account...

Our favorite type of camping is to go to the beach and drive a couple miles up the beach to some low sand dunes. We almost never see anyone else, even on holiday weekends, unless it is friends coming to visit or join us.

We keep it simple, but bring two ice chests (one for drinks and one for food)... if careful, ice will last 4 days in hot weather. A sun shade, extra tarp, and a tent. A folding table and chairs, camp stove, firewood, snacks and meals (easy ones like back packing freeze dried)... lots of good Mexican beer (Pacifico, Dos Equis XX, Tecate Light) is purchased in San Felipe on our way to camp. We are happy as a clam!

Here are some photos of our camp and beach from the past few trips:

The beach is called 'Shell Island' and is about 20 miles south of San Felipe, on the east coast of Baja. I have been camping in the area since 1965 (with my folks) and on this beach since 1978. It remains unchanged and (to me) perfect.
