Just like in a tent you need a barrier of insulation between you and the ground because it will suck the heat from your body. Try a light foam pad that you can custom cut to your hammock, that should provide enough insulation to keep you warm on a fairly cold night.

yes. I prefer to wear clothes that wick the moisture away and breath well. Honestly, I dont wear a hat unless I am sitting around camp or not moving for a while. Otherwise, I sweat and my head gets cold. I have been in 3 degree weather at night and slept great... if not better than I do in my own bed. It is all a matter of getting your layers right.
this... bass pro has these blue roll up pads that I almost boughtto throw in the bottom of my hammock. Make sure they are closed cell foam too!

^ damn 3 degrees is cold. I went when it was 15 and it was damn cold. tested out my new pack the other day as well. its a REI flash 50. pack is light and hold a lot of gear. it also hold weight very well. I love this pack and am very glad i traded my kelty for it

lol hell yeah it was cold. It would have been worse if we didn't set up in an evergreen area. That protected us from the wind A LOT! Waking up the next morning was not fun... especially putting your freezing ass shoes on. Thats when all you care about is getting that fire started back up and get it going as quick as possible. lol

definitely. That is the only thing I hate about winter camping is getting up in the morning freezing my nuts off. Otherwise, I love it.

Just got done doing some camping/scouthing for a spot to deer hunt in the upcoming season. Went pretty well except I had some issues of cutting of the circulation to my feet the last night and got a little cold. Temps were est of 65-70 in the day and below 32 at night. Elevation was just above 4500 ft. Area was in the Colville National Forest in NE Washington State. Posted some pics for ya all to view. (Sorry I have a pos camera and am no photographer. Enjoy! (By the way the date on the photos is wrong. lol)

Nice sunset pics^ High around 80 and low of 50 here. I want to do some backpacking this weekend, but I can't find anywhere close. The outdoor rec deptartment of my school is going on a spelunking trip this weekend though, so I'm going to see if there is still a spot open. Otherwise I'll be back where I was last weekend.
