For hiking? I like my Garmin 60csx - 62 is the current model - for hiking but it sucks when I'm in the truck. Which is why I just bought a nuvi...

I LOVE my old Sierra Designs tent!! It's a discontinued Omega 2, I've had it for years, and have been in almost every climate around the world with it! Enjoy!

Dave, you need more pics camping! I love seeing where/how people set up their spaces. Is that weird? ;)

2_Wheels, great setup in your truck.

Damn! I just reserved for my island camping trip and she told me no fires in backcountry camping, and that backcountry is full the night that's in the middle of my stay. I booked anyways...planning to just sneak it if I have to. There's no way I can transport my kayak or paddle all the way to the south point of the island to the available camp there.

yep. it will just strictly be for hiking. I have the Nuvi for driving. I can use my droid but it would absolutely drain the battery.
I hear you. I had 4 articles and this term paper due today. then I have to do some more articles over the weekend

I like the Seedhouse tent....I've heard nothing but good reviews about Big Agnes products. If you want to save some bucks though, the Spitfire looks good. I've just heard some people bitch about the Eureka products leaking because the rainfly doesn't cover as well as it should. But when you look at the ratings...still pretty damn good for the price. That first tent is nice and roomy, but double the weight.

Id say it is about the same thickness as the tent I just bought. It isn't very thin but it also isnt overly thick. It seemed like it would hold up pretty well to the wind and stuff.

    Seedhouse.

Lowest packed weight. Big vestibule. Freestanding.

Plus, it has options (just fly, poles & footprint) if you want to go ultra-light.

I'm not a fan of the others because the Lynx is side-opening (I prefer igloo) and the Eureka is not freestanding.
