I've always been told that backpacking is no time to be on a diet. Seriously you burn so many calories I wouldn't worry about it. I always make my own meals. With the right pot/pan you can make anything. I've made bean&cheese burritos, chicken quesadillas, spam/summer sausage sandwiches, spaghetti, chicken and rice, pizza... This time of year you could do hobo packs (veggies + meat wrapped in tin foil). Those are my favorite!

You're thinking 'oh, I'm so fat I need to lose weight' diet. I'm talking about a restrictive diet due to food allergies. Its not really an optional sort of thing...if I eat wheat, etc I get violently ill.

Same..I have Ulcerative Colitis. So the foods I eat allow me to live med-free. Pretty good trade-off.

Ultralight Backpackin' Tips by Mike Clelland. If your looking for way to shed weight (doesnt even have to be U.L) thos is a pretty good read. Lots of good ideas.

Just upgraded a few things in the backpacking arsenal. My medical kit was in one of those huge freezer baggies and weighed a ton. This kit only weighs 3.5 oz. homemade kit weighed 9.5. When I was just in FL, I crossed a little inlet that was up to my knee and crossed again a little while later and was up a little passed my waist. I completely forgot my headlamp was in those pair of shorts I was wearing so needless to say... the salt water destroyed it. Got this Petzl Tikka 2. This bad boy is bright as hell! Don't shine it in anyone's eyes! They will be pretty pissed... once they can see again.

Adventure Medical makes some great kits. I keep one of their smaller kits in with my motorcycle gear too.

yeah I am pretty impressed. This one has a tube of adhesive too. Now i can take the little tube of superglue out of my backpack. lol It has a lot in it for how small/light it is. I am just kind of wondering how good of quality the bandages and stuff are inside the sealed bag.

What all is in there? I mostly carry wound management stuff - gauze, medical tape, antiseptic, self-adhearing wrap, 2 triangle bandages, gloves - and just a couple of meds - 2 doses of tylenol, some pepto, and nasal decongestant. Oh, and condoms and earplugs...

On another note I made a crazy-creek style chair out of some old tent poles I found and polyester t-shirts. My sleeping pad fits in it for cushion.

Yeah definitely but that is my soul reason for never going out alone. If something should happen, one of us will hopefully be able to take care of the issue.

Oh yea i forgot I have moleskin in there. Tourniquets are kind of outdated. They cause a lot of problems. The only place they're used is for the femoral artery and it takes some serious shrapnel to cut that. Direct pressure will stop the bleeding as quick, if not quicker, than you can get one built. If it's a really deep wound you can stuff it with guaze.

Here's some pics of my chair
