Penny stove? I made one out of plain beer cans. Worked pretty good but took a little effort to get lit.

I started to make a penny stove but it was too complicated for my liking. This is just an ordinary alcohol side burner stove. I made a few out of pop cans. They work pretty well and only take about half an hour after you know how to do it and get good at the cuts. This will probably go out on the trail with me so I wanted something a little stronger and wider to put the water pot on.
Here is one of the pop can ones I made

I'm going to have to make one of those! I like the side burner idea.

After policing this place, we don't usually have time for anything else. Hell' I have to self police myself so I don't spend all day at work on here.

    Thanks!
The aluminum water bottle one was probably the easiest one I did actually mainly because of there only being 3 cuts and drilling the holes. Took about an hour or so all together for the first time and it works better than the other ones.

Need some input from u guys here. Got back from a long but beautiful 54 mile trek through Catalina Island and all went well except my bivy annoyed me on some days. Im using the MSR AC Bivy and the weight and size is great, but I experienced a good bit of condensation on 2 of the 4 days there. It was very annoying to wake up to cold water on your face and a wet down bag. So besides breathing through the vent, what other tips do you guys have to help keep me dry? If I use a tarp on top of the bivy (to try And trap some warm air) will this aid at all? I love using the bivvy but it's a pain to have to spread out my bag during lunch stops so It dries by the next night.

As far as I know you just need better ventilation. I've just gathered that from reading tent reviews. I'm not really familiar with bivvies though.

more ventalation is needed. you dont want to be breathing inside of the bivy, cause thats where most of the condensation comes from.

Thought I'd post this up here, because I'm procrastinating OChem homework...

I've been using this knife lately. I bought it mainly for the size, because it fits perfectly in a compartment on my boat. I use it to cut line mostly, but also for some cooking stuff when I don't have a bigger knife handy.

I got it at REI for 18 bucks I believe. Sorry if the pictures are huge.

I like it because when I sit down, it doesn't jab into your leg like some longer knives do (at least for me).

    Here is the REI link:

Overall I'm happy with it. My buddies laugh at it and call it names that I won't post up here, but they never complain when I have a knife handy. :)

Might as well post this up too..

Finally got to test out my Foster's Can pot today.

I just boiled some water to make hot chocolate. When it got going, the water boiled really fast with the lid on! I think it worked just fine.. The problem is dents in the can. I kept it in the same stuff sack as my other pans and it got a few dents. I pushed them out from the inside of the can..No harm done, just kinda a bummer...

In my current pre-coffee state, I swear I thought that was a groundhog next to the stove on the right. "That is awesome! Oh, wait, that is a rock with straw... hmmmm... sweet stove." Oh how the mind works.
