I'm really unsure what kind of paper filter it is. It does have multiple layers to it, no carbon filter contained within it. My buddy who made it adapted a carbon filter to his. I see no need for it since I only use that filter when we are backpacking at the river with lots of clean clear fast moving water to filter from.

The 2 ti cups/pots I have are 750ml and made by backcountry.com and I scored both on steapandcheap with a ti spork for each for about $18 each. Unfortunately backcountry.com no longer makes those ti cups.

Actually I have gear spilled over into my 2 spare bedrooms, but I have an actual gear room that most of my gear is stored in.

From the little bit I've used it so far, my Steripen UV water filter with pre filter has been pretty cool. Definitely not good for all situations but compact, pretty lightweight, and no problems yet. I think the hardest part of using it is trusting it, some of the guys I backpack with wouldn't trust that the UV kills everything, but I never got sick, and it's gotten pretty good reviews online. Pretty cool little gadget!

Pretty cool just pouring water through the filter and waving the "magic wand" in your nalgene, getting sterilized water while everybody else is busy pumping their filters. I do worry about relying on an electrical gadget for water filtration, if it craps out deep in the bush, things might suck.

These are my biggest concerns with these things. My step dads work uses something similar to this with UV to kill off crap and says they have never had an issues... I want to be sure the water is getting filtered and everything. and the whole electronic thing too. If the batteries die, if it cracks and gets water in it, all things I think about that make me very wary of those devices.

I don't trust steripen's. What if the batteries fail? What if it gets wet and craps out? What if the electronics go out? You can't put an inline charcoal filter on a steripen. Most of all, I don't trust that UV light is going to kill all microscopic nasties in the water.

Exactly! I much prefer carry the little bit of extra weight with a true filter and not risk getting sick. I mean, I guess it is possible to still get sick but I know for sure that water is being filtered

Oh yes they are. I have done 3 packrafting trips in Az, 1 of them with another packrafter on the Verde river and 2 solo trips on the Verde. I have ran it on the upper salt a few times, just day trips.

This July a friend and I will be doing a 10 day 100 mile packrafting trip in the Bob Marshall wilderness that is a large loop. First 2 days is a 15 mile hike up over an 11,000ft pass and down the backside which drops us at the creek we will put in on. We float down to the confluence with another creek where it then becomes the main river, float the main river down about 48 miles or so. Take out and hike about 13-14 miles up over a 12,000ft pass and down the backside which drops us at another river. Put in on that river and float around 18 miles to our take out, and then hike about 6 miles back to the truck. I'm stoked and can't wait for it to get here. Should be an insane amount of fun with spectacular scenery and some of the best fishing I have ever seen!
