Just picked up a spiderco sharpmaker sharpener. Awesome! As advertised i was able to sharpen my knife to a shave the hair off my arm edge in about 5 minutes! From a knife that has been used for coming up on 8 years sharpend with a regular old wetstone. So it was pretty dull to begin with.

I got my Sharpmaker last year. I've had to invest in the Costco size box of bandaids, I keep forgetting how sharp it gets my knives! ;)

Just got back from an overnighter to Yellowstone. :)

I've always said that it can't be a bad day if I'm in the park....and its true! I decided at the last minute to go camping this weekend (one of the busiest for the park) and things just worked out perfectly. I got a campsite (the roadside sign said no vacancy but I stopped and asked anyways) and had near perfect weather. It was about 28* this morning and my tent was sort of crunchy when I started to pack up

Oh there's always plenty of 2 legged idiots around. The new thing this year for tourists is to leave the car doors open when they exit to take a picture...in the parking lots, in the middle of the road...
Oh and the park ambulance needs a ranger escort with the rangers on the PA asking people to pull aside to let the ambulance through. Saw someone get life flighted out of the park yesterday and people were stopping in front of the ambulance. Stupid.

No 4 legged encounters...hardly saw any animals :( The elk are hiding and the buffalo are all congregated in one area of the park that I didn't have time to visit.

    Nice.

That reminds me of Silver Lake near Yosemite a few years ago. Except we had a crunchy truck, not a crunchy tent...

    So this...

...Collonade Falls in Yellowstone, is on my to do list for next summer. I talked to one of the rangers at the backcountry office this past weekend and he recommended that I plan a 3 day, 2 night journey to really have time to do a leisurely hike. He also suggested that I plan it for late August or early September as there are water crossings and a marshy area to deal with and spring isn't the best time to be doing those sorts of things. I had hoped to do the trip this summer but I am in no shape for it! I figure its going to be about 22 miles and I did 5 and 9...with no pack...this past weekend and I'm dying... Now I just need to stop myself from being a lazy slug this winter and I should be good to go by next fall.

    That looks awesome!

One of my photography friends posted pictures from the Rae Lakes Loop in Sequoia & Kings Canyon. One of the prettiest 44 mile loop trails I've hiked.

Well For the Second round this month I am taking the wife and step son to LASSEN Peak in Northern Cali. Why I say second time is that the wife and I just did the hike to the top over Labor day wknd. We didnt have our son so we wanted to get a hike in before they close it for the winter. We are going on the last wknd of this month and actually going to camp at the base of Lassen Peak this time. The actual hike to the top of the Peak reaches just a little over 10,000 ft and boy what a view. This will be on Saturday then on Sunday we are going to hike the Lava tubes over off of Hwy 44 on our way back home. Will get some pics posted as soon as we get back. I posted a pic of the beggining of the trailhead at about 8,000 feet. The trail head is 2.5 mile hike and reaches over 10,000 ft.

Be sure and check the peak trail will be open. There have been closures while they work on it.

Also, be sure and hike down to see the various geothermal features at Bumpass Hell. Bonus! The wildflowers are also blooming in some spots :D

Thanx. I have already checked it out form this website here and also have called them for a most up to date check.
    http://www.nps.gov/lavo/parkmgmt/current-lassen-peak-trail-status.htm

I was born and raised in Susanville so we made this trip quite frequently. So its quite a good favorite of mine and have been there a few times all year round.

4 season, 2 or 3 person tents that don't cost an arm and a leg...go!

I seem to be camping earlier and later in the year (April to "hopefully" November this year) and think it may be time to invest in a better, 4 season tent.

So this is just what I got a couple of weeks ago and will be trying it out up at Mt.Lassen the end of this month with my wife. I like how it has a door at each end and the fly cover can act as a rain cover alone for the summer months.

If weight is not an issue, yes. Otherwise...heavy.

You want my old 4 season tent? North Face.

Scott were you referring to my Amazon tent for weight. If so most of the 4 season tents range in the 7 to 10 lb for a 4 person tent. Now if your looking into a 2 person or one person then that a different story. Apples to apples then. Some of the new North face 4 season tents are in the 11 lb range on REI's website. But I dont use mine for back packing as much so I wasnt concerned about weight for me personally.
4 season tents are always going to be heavier to with stand the weather.
