I now have an optimus stella + stove and it is BY FAR the best backpacking stove I have owned yet.

I like this design of the Optimus Stella. Looks big, but folds down small.

    Here's a pic for comparison.

I have used several stoves over the years. At one point I went to an alcy soda can stove but that proved to be a bad move, almost burned down my entire camp one night while trying to boil water....so I moved to the stella+. Great little stove, comes with a wind screen and like you said it folds down small. Next to my HTC Hero for size comparison

Other items that almost always go on every trip I take. Of course my water filter, my backcountry ti 700ml mug, ACR PLB, and my primus lantern goes sometimes if I have friends accompany me on trips

I just got an MSR Dragonfly. Not the lightest or smallest, but very bomber stove that's really powerful, and can run off anything that burns (white gas, unleaded, desil, ethanol, kerosene, etc). Its also very fuel efficient, I cooked on it for 5 days off one canister in the snow.

The optimus system is definitely also amazing and I loved it to.

Would it be too much to go down in a loaded canoe?? We have kayaks, but some of us would like to bring dogs so they would be taking their canoes, just wondering what you thought about this?

    thanks!

Did you see what I was riding in?? 14' Mad River Loaded over the top nearly. Most of the 27 miles is flat water (of coarse depending on level).

Going back to buying stoves: Do not purchase any new model from JetBoil. My buddies were on an expedition in the Whites in NH and experienced a catastrophic failure and were almost incinerated in the tent by their brand new stove. Apparently there is going to be a recall.

just got back from my trip to the Red River Gorge. Had a blast. First night was rough. drank way too much.... uh... water........ fell into my sleeping bag and didn't get anything between me and the tent wall (we were on a hill) so I kept sliding down... woke up and blew chow all over the camp site. The jetboil worked awesome! I boiled 4 cups of water in less time than my dad boiling his 2 with his whisperlite. Only thing that sucked was I had to sleep with the fuel canister. I am now really considering buying an Alite Monarch chair...

Saw a few backpackers with these. I had seen them before but was not too sure. Got to test it out... very comfy. and it is super light and packs down very small.

Nice pics Aaron. That appears to be a coleman tent, and if it is I can't believe someone packed that heavy ass thing in.

it is a Coleman and yes that thing was heavy as hell. I got the wonderful duty of packing the main tent in.. we split it up amongst us. I was at 25 lbs on my pack before i put it on.. I dont want to know how much i was at after.
