lol ticks definitely suck. I dont tuck everything in like you but I remember driving home one day after hiking and saw a tick just before it crawled along my leg and up my shorts. Damn near wrecked the car brushing it out.

Haven't been on TW much lately but now that I have a new job and back in OH I am sure I'll be on more.... plus I am getting a taco in the next month or 2! :D

My fear of snakes (non poisonous ones) has gone down... Still don't like them but spiders.... screw all of that. We have an unfinished basement that is never really dry and has cracked foundation... you have to be extremely careful lifting up boxes on the floor down there because there have been numerous occasions where there were 3-4" wide brown recluse spiders under them and those bastards JUMP at you. Ive screamed like a little bitch on multiple occasions.

My fears in life are bugs, spiders mostly, tics are evil, heights, and snakes don't really bother me.

i got a good chuckle out of the last couple pages... here we are, like minded, self sufficient people who love the outdoors and are willing to sleep in a fabric enclosure that can be measured in micrometers, on the ground, potentially surrounded by coyotes, bears, mtn lions, rabid creatures, deranged deer and the occasional startled moose, creatures that are capable of disemboweling you...
And we all scream at a very high pitch, slap ourselves silly, run, fall down and damn near pee ourselves when we have an insect the size of a pencil tip crawling up our legs.
Of course that tiny insect can cause big problems on it's own, but you have to see the irony..

I hate spiders too btw, all of them. When I'm stalking through the woods and get some damn web across the face, well, it's pretty comical to anyone watching.

Im with ya!It is very funny I don't really care about the animals but little tiny insects make me scream, though it might be that I have dogs and a boom stick for the big animals:D if only ticks were the size of deer...

:rofl: yeah it is pretty funny. one thing that does not really bother me is moths or nats. get a lot of that when night fishing off the bank. yeah bigger animals don’t really scare me ever. I hunt some of them so... don’t have to worry about moose or anything around here. we do have elk in some places.

should have seen me when a buddy told me i had a spider on my back. i jumped around yelling get it of get it off get it off all over his bed room and waving my arms around.

I do camp/hike in bear country and I take all the precautions I can to limit my risk of an encounter. Being in the RTT definitely limits my animal encounters from little critters but I'm sure if a bear really wanted to come after me the RTT wouldn't stop them.
Most bugs don't bother me but spiders and ticks just freak me out. I think its because if a bear was coming at you you would know it but the tiny creepy crawlies can sneak up on you and its that element of surprise that makes us all go berserk.

Yeah, I stay out of brushy areas and try not to go under trees since they can fall/jump down onto you.

There are areas here where they're really bad all summer but for the most part they are only around in the spring. Once we get some really hot days their numbers drop significantly. I'm just really careful about where I go in the spring and early summer

I LOVE those things! i have one kinda big one with a carabiner on it. i use it to tie/hold stuff down in the truck bed all the time. stuff like push mowers, back pack blower. helps keep it from rolling or bouncing around. they are good for so many things. don’t have to use a carabiniere, but i do because makes it easier to hook it to the bed rail tie downs or the D-ring by the tail gate.

Water is carried in backpack, about 9-liters per person for two days. I re-purpose 2-liter soda bottles.

Fire. Yes we do fire in the desert. :)

nice! glad you like them. Ive seen them used for camping and what you use yours for. I just like the fact that I wont have to deal with knots!! especially in the winter if I have gloves on!
