I've made the same thing, but out of a tuna can! Works great! Light weight, burns clean, and easy to replace after you accidentally step on it at night!

What kind of fuel do you plan on using? I use denatured alcohol, but I'm wanting to try others.

    Have you used it yet?

Ya i used it 2 times so far. I used HEET. its just methly alcohol. It burns super hot. 2oz burned for over 20 min and it brought 2 cups of water to a boil in about 6 min give or take a few seconds. The heet also burns super clean

sweet! those Ascends are pretty nice. I have a -10 Marmot mummy bag and like it a lot.

    have fun camping!

i need to find a few people to hit the woods around my area. I dont exactly like going alone for safety purposes. This is great camping weather.

i know what you mean...camping and hiking by yourself can be very dangerous. I wanted to get a marmot but the ascend was more my price:D

I'm thinking about purchasing this tent this weekend. Any other 4 season tents you guys would recommend? I was looking at the 2 person version (Alpenlite X2), but with my German Shepherd eventually going camping with me, I opted for something bigger.

That could be your base camp setup to get to where you'll start your hike.

yeah I have witnessed too many things go wrong with more than one person where the other backpacker had to drag them out of the trail.

well my new bag kept me tosty in 35 degree weather with help from a foam pad. the pad really does make all the difference. new hammock was ok... not overly impressed but it did the job. also went fishing and caught several 2 pound bass and a huge brim, so all-together the trip was a success.

    Sounds like a good trip.

Yeah, a good sleeping pad makes a world of difference -- even more so when you're on the ground.

I've got a Pacific Outdoor Equipment Ether Thermo 9 which does a great job of insulating my body heat from escaping to the ground. Plus, it packs up nice and small and light. The only drawback is having to blow it up after reaching camp, but it is so comfy.

that is one thing I am not too fond of. I like to stretch out when I sleep and the hammock doesn't let me do that.
