I would recommend going to REI (or any sporting goods store) and looking at the tents in person. REI usually has them set up and you can climb inside to get a feel for it...make sure its roomy enough etc. They're very patient there!

I mean if your driving in you could go bigger :) But it looks good. I sleep in the bed of my truck. But remember sleeping pads and gear being inside the tent aswell. You may want to go a little bigger just so the GF dosent feel so crammed and she could be comfy. It will only take one bad trip for her to not want to go again.

:anonymous: Me too. I almost killed myself when my snowshoe tail got hung up on a clothing rack...NOT one of my finer moments!

And I wandered around the store with several backpacks weighted down for a good hour too.

Quarterly...there is one in 2 weeks in SD. I would check the closest store to you and ask them...or go to the site and they should list it

Wish I could help ya out, but I've never been. It on my To Do list tho!

Thanks man! This MULE looks different from the others I've been seeing. This must be the Military Issued one while the others are for regular consumers  not sure, but this one is much nicer

Amazon has had a few things for me as well.

I would go and physically look at the tents and sleeping bags to make sure you know what your getting.... then, go find it online for cheap.
Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, for a stove, you could get a cheap coleman 2 burner stove that works off a propane cylinder. I think I have seen them for as low as $80. Water proof matches and a lighter of some sort. since you are car camping, you may as well throw some wood in the back of the truck so you don't have to worry about trying to find it or deal with wet stuff if it rains. Tarp is nice to have as well. Cooking equipment. Weight really isn't an issue in your case since it will be at the truck. I would just throw everything in a big plastic container and take off!

Oh.... review on my Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock...

I got this hammock off of Amazon for $60. Today was the first real nice day I got to test it out. Temps around the 70's but dropped to around 58 or so when I was in it. Overall... I like it! A LOT!!!! I need to find a way to hang this in my room. I think it is actually more comfortable than my bed.....AND my Hennessy Exped. hammock!!!!! I was laying it in for about 2 hours and actually fell asleep in it. I think the tree straps would be helpful but the rope they provided sufficed. At 24 oz, it is pretty light... actually MUCH lighter than my Hennessy expedition (41 oz). Can't wait to take it and test it out on my next backpacking trip!

So do any of you guys run into local rules/guidelines for firewood? We are having a big problem up here in the midwest with a bug called emerald ash borer. All of wisconsin has a rule now of "burn it where you find it" I believe it is illegal to haul firewood across county lines in an attempt to slow the spread of the bug.

They have also found the first signs of the bug in Minnesota, so it is slowly moving west. Anyone else running into this type of thing?
