For safety, I would advise you to install a fuse inside the box as close to the battery bank as possible. Looks like you had fun with your project, and that's good. :)

I like to live dangerously

But yes, I will probably be adding a fuse. there is virtually no risk of anything shorting out with the way it's set up, but a fuse is never a bad thing. i'll probably wait untill i add the rest of the electronics. rest being the inverter and usb charger.

Yes. It is dangerous. Something (a foreign object ) pushed into your nice 12v charging port will melt your wires, or worse. I've seen it happen, so it's worth mentioning IMO. Good luck. :D

A diagram for those interested. This generally how it's done. I have added the fuse in this diagram. also, I have switches that illuminate when turned on. this diagram shows non illuminateing switches. for ones the at light up, you will simply have a ground coming from each switch.

All of the bits for my box showed up today. It turns out the amp has a 3.5mm jack as well as the RCA jacks. I may just keep this simple and use the bluetooth adapter internally instead of adding the external port.

That means I'll have to open the box for certain operations, but that's no big deal. I don't expect to try and change the song while it's pouring rain on me. :D

As for charging the phone I'll just wire in a female cig power outlet inside the box and use a car charger. Should work for the time being.

Do you know how much noise a 4" hole saw makes in an apartment?

I used the plug from the wall charger to connect to the battery. I'm assuming the polarity was reversed, or the wires were just labeled wrong. I'll be sure to get the multmeter out for the next one.

You can see the blue smoke above. :(

External switches, or are you using the one built into the battery?

Two external switches. One for the spot and the other for the floods. The amp has a switch as well as the battery so those are covered.

I don't understand how they can label these speakers waterproof. They don't provide a gasket or seal of any kind. I'm planning on running a bead of silicone around the perimeter of the speakers to seal them.

With a clearer head this morning I checked my wiring. I had wired the male pigtail backwards, which lead to the blue smoke. I'll pay more attention next time.
