Right, which is sort of what I just figured. Which is also why they were the same prior to calibration. Seems strange that even though the distance was the same (prior to calibration), the speed was off. I would think that since they are getting info from the same places, they would have both been the same.

This seems to be the right thread to post my own UG problem...bear with me.

According to the door sticker, my truck was originally fit and, one assumes, the speedometer was calibrated for 225 sized tires. The first owner changed rims and now the truck runs with 31x10.5s. So...I go to an online calculation converter and enter in that data: Old tire size: 28.3 inches/New tire size: 31. Speedometer reading at 50mph/ Actual speed: 54.8 mph. That's about what I figured: so far, so good.

My problem, other than the fact that I routinely take too long to get to my point is that After I followed the calibration instructions last night for my new UG, I put my truck on cruise control with the speedometer showing 55mph, and the UG says I'm actually running 49.x mph. What gives?

I'm pretty sure I did it right, with mile-markers and all, but clearly I got something turned around bass-ackwards. Anyone venture a guess as to what I'm doing wrong? Clearly I'm not understanding what the rest of you guys are. Thanks for any input.

Did you make sure you cleared your TRIP DISTANCE before you calibrated? If your marked mile is the same as your as your TRIP DISTANCE then leave it alone. If not calibrate it.

I don't know how you can get an accurate distance calibration using just mile markers. Missing only a couple of feet b/w mile markers could add up to A LOT more after a longer distance. I'd use a GPS, and travel a good distance before you calibrate it. I'd also say to reset your distance calibration distance to 0 before you start again with the GPS. My distance calibration was over about 100 miles.

So, I finally filled up and completed the fuel calibration. Leaving the distance stock since my truck is stock, and everything looks a lot more accurate...... except my DTE, it reads about 410...???? I know there was a thread on hear about people getting over 400miles a tank, but I can't imagine the gas gauge being off by that much.....

I tried the distance calibration with my wife's running GPS. It definitely never came out to 1, more like 1.07, but it varied every time I did it, that's why I reset it to 1.

My truck is a stock 2010 DC Auto 4x4.

    Any feedback..?

So far over the course of 3 fillups I've never been able to get the total gallons used to match what goes in the tank at the pump. It's always been off by at least a gallon. This is a significant adjustment, and if the gauge can't somehow be calibrated so the numbers are closer to matching, then the MPG, DTE, fuel used, etc will never be accurate.

On that note, I changed my Engine Size in the vehicle setup menu to 3.96L (manual says it's 3.956L, UG only goes to a 100th of a litre for engine size). I had it set to 4.0 before, so this might help it calculate usage more accurately.

Has anyone else been able to get consistent numbers b/w the pump and UG showing fuel used?

Bumping an old thread here. i am curious about this too. Do I leave the distance Cal at whatever it calculates it to like 1.070 or 1.001 or whatever. Or do I want to reset it everytime?

I know this is old, but i can easily see getting over 400 per tank, i'm sure i can get over 450 miles per tank

from what i found, our odometers are pretty much spot on, so it doesn't matter much if you calibrate the distance, but when you calibrate how much gas you put in, after zeroing all the data at the start of the previous fuel up, then it makes it really really accurate.

Don't zero the fuel settings.... ever.
Keep your receipts for 10 tanks and add them up.
2nd tank, when you see the UG already has 24 gallons, but your total between the two tanks is only 23.5, change it to 23.5.

Once you get 10 tanks in there, or whatever it takes to get it to the point that you don't have to adjust the number that's already there, then from that point on only tell it "fill tank" and zero your trip information.

Re-zeroing the fuel quantity each time results in the 10th tank imparting no additional accuracy.

I didn't mean zero it every time, i think the accuracy depends mostly on where the fuel pump stops you at a full tank, that's why they recommend using the same gas station when you calibrate it, because i've been to some gas stations where the pump will stop, and according to my calculations and fuelly, it'll show over 30 mpg, and i know that's wrong, so then i save that receipt and after the next fill up, calculate that in, and it'll be within normal range.

Yup... that's another thing about running 10+ tanks, or however many it takes until your number matches the UG pre-input number on 2 or 3 tanks.
Just like people doing a mod and then immediately bragging about a 2mpg improvement, when their fuelly shows that it was a 1-tank fluke... more data points tells the story.

So really, after spending time calibrating it last night, I can probably just go in and reset the distance cal and be fine? But then go through the process outlined in the manual for the fill ups at the gas station?

yea, that's my opinion, others might think otherwise, they tell you to calibrate distance first, but when i did that, it pretty much read exactly what my odometer read, and i've tested my odometer with google maps before, and it was really accurate, this is the part i find most imp

This calibration is used to fine-tune UltraGauge to accurately measure fuel usage. This calibration is critical, especially for vehicles which use a MAP sensor, diesels and alternative fuels.
 For vehicles that use a MAP sensor*, see the menu section on Adaptive Volumetric Efficiency before proceeding.
 Prior to this calibration, consider performing the distance calibration. See the section: Calibrate Distance
The gauges that depend on fuel usage will not be accurate until this calibration is complete. To perform calibration, please follow these steps.
    1. Fill up the fuel tank. Once filled, press and hold the UP key to cause UltraGauge to recognize the fill-up
    2. Zero the Average MPG. MENUGaugesZero Ave MPG, G/H.
    3. At the next fuel fill-up, note the number of gallons used (pumped). Select MENUVehicle Setup..Calibration..
Calibrate MPG/Fuel and enter the fuel used. Press MENU when complete to set and save the calibration. Use the same Gas station and pump for best results. Alternatively, record and add the actually gallons used over several fill-ups to improve accuracy.
    4. The Calibration factor will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

when i first got my truck, i was surprised at how good my fuel economy was, so i was skeptical of my odometer, so i was comparing it to mile markers between tampa and gainesville. I thought my truck was off because between 50 mile markers it was like 2 miles off, then, then on my return trip it was right on, after repeating this a few times, and then using a few other start and stop points on google maps, i concluded one side of I75's mile markers are off. now after calibrating my ultragauge, whenever i fill up gas, i pretty much fill up whatever i expect to fill up according to the fuel level, and the mpg calculations are also really close

But do you want to do step 2 everytime, or just step 3?
