my UG is mounted on the left side of my window... well the sun was on it all afternoon due to the way i was parked. got in and it was reading 149.8 degrees. wow. outside temp was 92 but the direct light on it heated it up pretty good....

still really happy with the UG buy. makes me slow my roll and watch the gas. i think i've gained a few mpg since the purchase. (i've only had the truck for 12 days). ha.

Got in and the alarm went off. 160+ degrees and it was 113 outside.

Same here, the first week I had mine on the windshield mount the alarm would go off with temps in the high 150s. And that was on only high 80 low 90 days. In the hot socal summer days that thing would probably melt. ;)

Now that i have it mounted down low as planned I no longer have that issue.

Did the UG still function when it hit above 160?

I'm glad I'm not the only person who has had this problem. I got in my truck the other day and when I started the truck the UG came on and the face had a white tint all over it and the alarm was going off saying that the internal temp was 172. Needless to say I instantly pulled it off my windshield and put it in front of the ac. After it cooled down the face changed back to its normal color and worked normally. It was 95 outside and had been in direct sunlight all day.

    Hot places, hot women! :D

Typical for anything that's an LCD. I remember back in high school when I would leave my pager (remember those?) in the car accidently the face would turn black. I had to put it in the fridge for it to get back to normal.

Lol I sure do. I didn't realize they did that. It gave me quite a scare because I thought it was gonna be stuck like that considering it wasn't even a week old.

Huh, that's what that damn UG alarm is. meh it's been around 107-ish, direct windshield with my windshield cover reflecting back to it.. only gets to about 167 I think wast he max I saw... never had screen issues or well anything with it other than the annoyance alarm.

Also lol @ stock rpm alarm. Only 4,000rpm? I can see they defiantly cater to mpg squeezers with it, though it's kinda useless with a 1sec scan.

Stays cool enough with a sunshade, or anything for that matter to sheild it from direct sunlight.

This is a variation of Cubantaco's mount on p41 post #808. I used the cover below the vent to the left of the radio.
I have a 2010 Regular Cab, so nothing is behind this cover and lots of room to fish the OBD II connector.
The cover is easy to remove. I could remove it by pressing up and pulling out without any tools.
I cut the stalk as Cubantaco did. The length does not matter because there is plenty of room
behind the cover. I drilled a 7/8" hole with a holesaw into the cover near the top right so
I could have a little more room from the wiper stalk. The hole was drilled from the backside right over the part number of
the cover (55524-04020 L).I removed any protrusions on the backside of the cover with a small pair of dykes. I then drilled
a 5/32" hole on the bottom of the cover for the cable and cut a relief with the dykes.
I could not get the mount tight enought with the ring and still have play with the ball mount to adjust the Ultragauge,
so I did not use the ring. I glued the mount to the cover plate from the backside.
