I'm making a run today with it to the scrap yard to source some odd stuff for the lathe - will see if it runs a bit hotter since it's suppose to be in the mid-20s . I would expect it to run right at 190* with the efi system , being that much less I'd bet that's where a lot of the winter fuel economy drop comes from . I've considered making a winter front curtain to go behind the radiator - but don't want to cover the trans cooler and cause an issue there .
Will report back what I find today - this trip is around 100 miles or so .

My Ultra-Gauge MX v1.3 arrived today. My OCD kicked in and I had to install it tonight.

    Trip report -
Average temp ran around 183* most of the time , just touched 190* once for just a moment and then promptly dropped to 178* - stayed there for quite awhile . My take is the thermostat is getting a bit sticky so might just replace it . I did notice a difference in the instant mileage figures when it was running above 180* , so in my opinion it's not holding engine heat well enough . I do need to flush/fill the coolant anyway , far as I know it's the original from the factory .

I'll have to dig up that thread on how much coolant , think it's like 4 gallons .

    Thanks for the update, Sarge.

David, that mounting location looks good. Can you take another shot of the mounting bracket you used? I am still trying to decide where mine is going to go. It should be here tomorrow.

I am really interested to do some comparison on trans temp when towing my Rzr. It weighs around 1400-1500 pounds and the trailer is another 800. The truck pulls it fine in overdrive and doesn't hunt unless I am on very hilly terrain and then I always pull it down into 4th. I have the factory tow package and am curious to see the difference in trans temps and mileage when pulling in 4th vs 5th.

I doubt it, but mine was less than $100 with mounting brackets and shipping. Throw your old one up for sale in the classifieds for $50 and spend $50. Done!

Outside temps have been around 60-70 f* here in southern ga. City driving Iv noticed my engine temps have stayed between 182-191 f* and trans temps have gotten no higher that 130 f*. Iv noticed that while going 60 mph with the torque converter locked, it drops to 90's f*. I'm going to be getting a pop up camper soon so I'm interesting to watch my trans temp while loaded down with camping supplies!

My upgraded UG came in the mail yesterday....will install later. In regards to the above mentioned engine temps...mine always runs between 190 and 194 whether it's 35 or 95 degrees outside.

I'm just curious if the 10* or so difference is what is killing the fuel mileage in the winter - summer it's fine .

It's the IAT that is killing mileage in the winter. The engine warms up, but the air pulled from the fender stays cold. There have been a few members running "warm air intakes" that pull warm air out of the engine bay for better mileage during the winter with some success.

Sarge, could be the winter gas. Fuel with ethanol has less energy per unit volume than fuel without.

Just got the notification that my reprogrammed UG will be here Thursday! Finally!

I tow a 3000lb camper trailer and I have always wondered about the tranny temps, especially living on top of a mountain.

I've also been wondering about my thermostat. It seems to take a lot longer for my engine to get up to temp (190F) when it's cold out (<40F).

BTW, I mounted my UG right in front of the speedometer. It only blocks the speed. I run the MPH gauge perpetually and cycle through other gauges....one of which will be tranny temps now!

I used a metal bracket from a walmart phone holder, but I'm gonna replace it with the one from UG. Just 3m double side taped to the are right above the vent

Here are a couple more pics. I used the ultra-gauge Horizontal Surface Mount. As you can see it is mounted on the top of the radio bezel frame. I did not use the standard adhesive tape that came on the mount. I used 3M exterior mounting tape. It never fails.

The position works well for being easy to glance at while driving, and the menu buttons are easy to access.

    2015 + UG = driver dash features of a 2016 & more for less than $100

That is what I'll be doing, except over the vent

188° - 194° didn't even make a difference today when it hit 35 outside. Trans temp was 138°- 145°, pretty consistent on both.

Yes, I sent it in for the upgrade. So far it only reads" err" in the trans temp position. I'll be working on it some more

Since reinstalling it the engine temp is between 188 and 192. 2 degrees lower than the previous 300 hrs. of operating at 190-194 but not an issue.....close, works for me.
