When the TC is locked, for example: when you’re cruising down the street at 55mph, the TC and Pan will read almost exactly the same. When you are accelerating or at a stop with the transmission engaged the TC will be unlocked, an unlocked TC builds heat quickly. The TC is where the majority of the heat in an AT comes from. The TC has to unlock to allow an AT to shift, the TC also locks and unlocks in overdrive to allow you to lightly accelerate (or maintain speed on an incline) without dropping down a gear. That’s why you aren’t supposed to tow in OD, the transmission will be hunting for gears constantly and will have the TC unlocked more of the time, resulting in more heat and wear on the TC clutches and valve body bores/solenoids.

so is this supplement now the gospel as far as trans pan temps? I had the codes input from earlier in the thread and i thought they were correct, now i found this supplement. both output temperatures, but only one is correct?

I know the codes in the supplement have something like x: 0001 / 0001. I used to have 9 and 5 on top of a few other minor changes

I just want to make sure that the supplement is the final final and is accurate

It’s from UG, so I assume it is correct. Take a picture of your current settings and change to the new ones and see if there’s any change. If it doesn’t work or whatever you can always roll it back to the old settings. With these it’s just kinda a trial and error type of deal.

    live in Toronto (canada).

current pan temps are in the 150-160F range...

This is of course just normal city traffic , no towing.

just did a quick check. I know it wont be exact, but I used a infrared temp sensor on the pan after letting it idle and after a 20 minute ride. Infrared was at 152, UG was at 149. Close enough that i feel this code is the correct one

The dedicated trans temp gauge on mine goes anywhere from 135 to 180 depending on if the transmission is shifting or not ,going uphill or down . Average temp is around 155 .

Anyone get this to work on a first gen yet? I know my 03 3.4 auto has a trans temp sensor because I can read it with the torque app, just don't know the codes to make it work on the ultraguage

Anyone know the code for the torque converter lock up/unlock(3rd gen) to display on the UltraGauge MXv1.3? I’ve searched and only found it for 2015 and prior. I tried that code and it still shows “err”?

Converter lockup info is worthless. All it means is that the trans is in an odd number gear (1,3,5). I found that sitting still at a red light, with the trans in 1st, lockup says "1". Impossible. I do not monitor this anymore.

Could someone please post pictures of the m gauge screens from 2012-2015 Tacoma/Tundra? I have the trans. temp. and torque converter temp. but would like to see/use the other m gauge options.
