    Semi-related story....

I've been mildly "no hurry" looking for a trailer. A dealership around here has a used, homemade tandem axle...(and I quote the Marketplace ad)..."Tandem 5200 lb axles, no brakes" (actually they said breaks, so maybe I'm misunderstanding and they mean the frame isn't broken...but I doubt it :) ).

So I stop by to look at a different one, and naturally the salesman caught me before I could get away....bragging up (trying to get it off the books) this homemade trailer and tells me about the axles, which I had already read about on facebook and gave a firm "NO" mentally.

Folks, I couldn't help myself. I said "Yea I saw that one...definitely not interested."...."Can I ask why".....(thinking 'you can, but you may not like the answer') "Sure...reason is, at least for me, if you put 10k pounds on that trailer, or anywhere near 10k pounds on that trailer...or any trailer...with no brakes...regardless of what's pulling it...sooner or later, you're gonna be sorry you did. And for me, a 25+ year old homemade trailer with no brakes with REALISTICALLY a 2000# capacity, if that, is a tad high at $2500. And by the time you get to a price I'd pay for a glorified lumber hauler, I bet we'd be too far apart to suit you."..................................................................................................."Oh.....ok (change the subject)"

Moral of the story: If you don't want to know, don't ask :)
