It actually looks factory to me, Rick. We get so used to the simplicity of Toyotas around here that anything else is weird looking. I currently am the caretaker for two mazdas, a mini coopoer and a civic for relatives so I see some weird shit often.

More importantly, why are you asking? Is something wrong with them or her car?

She needs to replace the cable as it doesn't tighten enough.

Battery clamp? Simple fix- don't over think it. Pull the clamping bolt out completely and take a hacksaw or something similar (I'd probably recommend and angle grinder, but I don't know if you have one) and trim some material away from here. Doesn't take much- a single pass should do it. The gives the clamp a little more room to tighten before bottoming out on itself. If you need it a little tighter, give it a second pass, but that should do it.

Actually, if you pull the clamp off and remove the bolt, you should be able to spread the ears of the clamp a bit, it doesn't look like it's sitting too low on the post. There is a special tool for just this job, but a round screwdriver or two and something to lever it against inside the terminal should open it enough to do the trick.

That's true, the clamp looks a little high. My only concern is that if it's already come loose as is, it could happen again. A little extra tension couldn't hurt. Or maybe she had work done on it recently and the mechanic didn't tighten it properly.

Figure my wife has 7 more years with the State, she'll retire on my 58th Birthday. So for the next 6 or 7 years I'll put the extra roughly $60,000 a year away.

Not sure what else I could do besides a rear swingout bumper with tire carrier. Then I would sell the Wilco Hitchgate
