Shots 5, 6, 7, and 8 are really decent. Kind of hard to catch fireworks. ;)

Bet you want a new lens now. LOL

    Looks great!!!

The key to shooting fireworks is a tripod. Next time try putting the camera on a tripod Buy a shutter release cable put your camera on Bulb press and hold the shutter open for a moment to expose the background then with the shutter still open place a black card in front of your lens until the fireworks start. and just keep playing with it until you get an Image you like.

Thanks, yeah I was on a tripod, I just don't have the remote yet, and the fire works didn't last that long, so I didn't have much of a chance to play around.

Yeah the remote will help a lot I picked this one up on Ebay and it's awesome. It has the same functions as the Nikon MC-36 for about 80% less. http://cgi.ebay.com/Timer-Remote-N1...-36-/130391086720?pt=Camera_Camcorder_Remotes

I looked is the Nikon MC-36 remote but just wanted to try the cheap off brand before I dropped $160 on a remote that I use less then 10 times a year.

So check it out for $20 bucks you can't go wrong.

Don't think you need anything else...that pretty much covers the range, unless you want something wider, or if you want something with more distance. Maybe a lens just for portraits like a 35mm 1.8 or the 50 1.4 or you can get a macro lens...I sold both my macro and wideangle because I hardly ever used them. I'm happy with my 17-55 2.8 and my 70-200 2.8...I think what I am going to do is buy a 18-200 and keep it attached my D70s at all times, and just use my other lenses on the D300

I dont know much about the new digital photo stuff, but that hdr pic looks a little on the soft side, or is that how they all come out? I see that the traffic on the road is moving, is there a way with hdr that you can either freeze it or maybe take it on bulb with a small aperture? The later, if perfected could fix the exposure (if there was an issue in the first place) and add a nice backround effect of steady traffic.

    X2

I think you got it. I think if you get a portrait lens you would be set.

If you got the cash check out the new 85mm 1.4 it's sick.

Well they are soft because everything was moving, HDR images consists of 3 or more frames merged together. and I also did not have my tripod.
