Update. My uncle is getting ready to do his LAST radiation/chemo treatment. He has surgery may 15 and wont need cheno or rad for that either so it sounds like they pretty much got it but we arent in the clear yet.

Thank you all so much for the thoughts and prayers

Thanks everyone! It is definitely good news. I knew his stubborn personality would help him get through this even when the docs said he had a 2 and 5 chance of living.

Just letting you know my wife and I plus church family praying. I had stage 4 throat cancer in 2008. The radiation and chemotherapy will make him very tired and he will sleep a lot. I chose not to have the feeding tube, but lived off ensure and mega malts. Was not easy, but all the prayers brought me through the treatment. Be patient with his quiet times and just love him.
    Isaiah 41:10 helped me
Fear thou not for I am with the,be not dismayed, I am thy GOD.
I will comfort thee, I will help thee, I will uphold the with my righteous right hand.
Just a note, my throat was never burned by radiation, and I continued to swallow without sore throat. My neck got real bad and started secreting fluids, GODS grace and mercy brought me through 35 radiation treatments and 10 days on chemotherapy.

Forgot to update this thread. He is doing very well. His surgery got put off until May 30 so he is just waiting around for that. Otherwise he has been riding the motorcycle around and having fun. He has been in surprisingly good spirits based on what the doctors originally (2 in 5% chance of making it) this whole way through the battle.

Thanks a ton man. Congrats on getting through your battle. He ended up not having to do the feeding tube. He has been dealt a nice set of cards (as good as they can be) through all of this.

Thanks for sharing this story. My dad was diagnosed with stage IV esophagus cancer a few weeks ago. They said they can't operate or do radiation, so they are going to hit him hard with chemo. Like your uncle he's tough and stubborn so I know he's going to make it.

Sorry to hear this man. I wish your dad the best. Stay strong. Don't always trust what the docs say. Like in my uncle's case, they said he had a 2 in 5 chance (something like that) of living but he is doing well now and just waiting for surgery. Being tough and stubborn has its perks sometimes!

    Aaron,

Sorry to hear about your uncle...prayers sent. Hang in there. Cancer isn't necessarily a life ender anymore. I've known a lot of folks who were diagnosed with varying cancers and varying stages. My uncle has been diagnosed with stomach, lung and leukemia and he's cancer free now. My wife had cancer 5 years ago and she's doing well now.

Reach out to the LiveStrong foundation too. They have a lot of resources.

Prayers to your uncle and your family.

Just an update on my Uncle. He had his pre op appt today and will be in surgery tomorrow morning and should be good to go in about 8 hours after that. He is in good spirits but lately has started having trouble swallowing his food so the surgery is coming just in time.

Please keep him in your prayers and hope for a trouble free surgery and fast recovery!
