I just took a look under my 2016 tacoma and noticed what seems like some type of seam sealant. Is this normal?

Ya, it was pretty sloppy, that's what worried me about it... but If you say it's normal, I can go back to wondering why there's a minor fluid leak under my engine. Thx

Is it oil or something else?

If oil, pop under there and look up (with glasses on of course) and see if you see oil pooling before it drips off anywhere. A couple members here have had oil leaks on their new engines.

Also, if you have a 4x4 check the front differential at the prop shaft (by the forward most U-joint). Mine is leaking, I haven't taken it in yet though, it is a slow leak. I need to register my truck first in case they need to keep it a while.

I think it's an oil leak. I assume this is the drain plug.

Am I the only one that looks underneath a vehicle before buying to make sure things look appropriate?

Damn those trucks look sad underneath... mine looks like Michael Angelo did the painting of the "sealant" in the body seams... It's a thing of beauty... If anyone want a pic...I'll go take a couple for ya...

I would think before dropping $35k-$40k on a vehicle, one would personally inspect a vehicle inside and out besides going on a test drive to make sure all things are in order.

I spent 31K on my 2015 and didn't crawl around under it. I don't think it's that odd for someone to purchase a brand new vehicle without crawling around under it, at the dealership. A used Tacoma, most definitely, but come on man...not everyone does that, nor should they need to

OK... I tried to get the same views.... I know I got the exact view as Dave's pic... not sure about the OP's, but the gunk they have is not what mine has... different color and different "arteest" applying it......

    Here they are...DSCN1047.jpg DSCN1048.jpg DSCN1049.jpg

As long as the seams are sealed all of this shit should work....

Maybe those were made in Baja on Monday morning after Cinco de Mayo

By the way... the "oily" appearance is "Corrosion Free".... a rust preventative we use up here in the great white, salty north...!!

Geese these 3 different applications look like the 1st one was "sprayed" on... the 2nd was "Painted on with a brush".... Mine looks like they used a "pressurized caulking gun"... what a difference..!!

People act like a Tacoma is the most expensive thing ever made.

For what it offers, the Tacoma is pricey. Either way, buying a vehicle is a big purchase. Might as well make sure it's built right and look underneath.
