Test drive it and decide for yourself.

It will be highly recommended to test drive one and decide for yourself. Some say it is not underpowered in you keep revs high.

It feels ok if you kept it bone stock.

500 HP Chargers are not underpowered, but they cannot take you to the same places as as Tacoma can. Even a bone-stock 4x4 Offroad Tacoma can take some scary-looking trails with only the initial purchase investment. The truck needs higher revs to get the torque for trails and towing sometimes (often?), but I love the fact I can hit forest roads and rocky paths and sloppy mud and sand anytime I want ... and expect to for several years unless my naturally stupid tendencies kick in sometime. :anonymous:

    Drive one yourself, find out.

Underpowered could be subjective as well

Kinda depends on what you are used to and how you drive

They’re fine, power is adequate. They aren’t the fastest thing out there, but they have plenty of grunt. Mine has hauled/towed anything I’ve asked it to without complaint, I’ve never felt like it was too weak.

I own a 2023 Tacoma. Before this a had a leased 2019 Ranger, the Tacoma is underpowered lol I ended up getting the overland torque tune and it improved.

Depends on what you are trying to do …for daily use it’s just fine and does great off road on stock setup .

"underpowered" is bandied about these days for a lot of things. mostly in a very FOMO way.

i'm the proud owner of a subaru brz, which has always been universally panned by pretty much all automotive journalist's for being 'underpowered'. it was also released around the time that the dodge hellcat models started making big waves in the same journalistic circles. so of course, comparing a lightweight 200hp 4 cylinder sports car, to a 700hp v8 sports car, is about the same as comparing a scalpel to a chainsaw...

but those same journalists rarely ever pay for the vehicles they rank so indiscriminately.

but it would be unwise for a doctor to perform surgery with a chainsaw... different purposes for different driving styles. pick what works best for you. i like my car for car things, and i like my 3rd gen for truck things, and what anyone else says about either vehicle doesn't really matter much to me.

If the cost of keeping my 2007 Corolla insured just to have a more fuel-efficient city-runner was not so high, I would have both my Tacoma and the Corolla. But I only have my weak sickly putzing Tacoma now ... :turtleride:

that really surprises me. the corolla was never a high end car, most people i've known, even 5-10 years ago with one, full coverage amounted to less than $300/6months for full coverage

I don’t understand people saying the 3.5 is underpowered. Been from Barrow AK to Puntas Arenas Chile. Climbed a single track to La Riconada in Peru at over 18k feet. People bitch about having pavement at 7k feet in Colorado.

Just don’t see it. But then again I’ve only put 200k on my truck in 21 months. I may not be used to it yet or maybe don’t have enough time behind the wheel to give any kind of opinion.

I do not want to hear from you again until you have a picture of the Tacoma at the top of Everest.

I went from a V8 E550 Mercedes to the 3.5L V6, now in a fourth gen because my 3.5L was stolen.

Is it underpowered? A bit. But that truck did everything I asked of it and more. Get it tuned or regeared if it bugs you that much. I did neither and was very happy with it.

Lastly - when she gets to about 3500 RPM, she pulls very nice.

For normal everyday driving, 3.5L taco has plenty of power.

Folks that say its underpowered never drove 90HP shitboxes or simply lack driving skills.

It has plenty of power for everything you *should* be hoping to accomplish in a taco. Not that everyone has realistic goals/behaviors

It can do everything. It’s just annoying to drive at times. Different things.

Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Sure guy, the larger of the two 3rd gen motors (the one that puts out 278 hp) is underpowered.

You might want a Ford Ranger at 270hp or a 4th gen Tacoma at 278 hp.

I doubt this is a real question. If it is.. go test drive.

Dude those 90hp shitboxes used to weigh nothing though. Everything is so bloated now of course everything needs more power.
