Most responsible firearms owners have a means to securely store at home. But, nothing in this world is 100% except death.

As far as i know, and the national park service web site says, you can. You can even take it into the shitter. But they dont want you carrying into the service buildings. Ive done my research. Even asked my local rangers in the CVNP. Maybe if a local municipality has some hiking trail that they dont use government funds for, they can say no.

But this post is about having a safe in the truck. No different than a safe at home.

These are not cheap but would take quite a while to get into it. They're bolted to the metal brace under the center console. More accessible than something under the seats. I've managed to get a .45 5" with paddle holster, two 14rd mags with holster, two extra .45 mags, 9mm compact, two 15rd mags and room to spare.

Is it illegal where you are to carry into a bank? To me a bank is one place I would prefer to carry. Especially if I’m making a large transaction or deposit.

Been trying to find a good solution to this as well. Not much room under the seats.

LockerDown is probably best solution, just expensive one at that.

Its illegal in the entire country to carry a fire arm legal or not, into a bank or post office.

That is not correct. Laws vary by state on carry in banks. Carry in post offices is illegal on a federal level.

Technically carrying into a bathroom in a National Park is illegal as well as it is a federal building. No one is going to care if you're not an idiot but it's what the actual law says. Carry outside buildings in the Parks falls under the laws of the state in which the park sits.

I like the GROSSOMOTTO" approach. Mine is a lot like some others here. I have a lock box cabled to front seat but, it lays in the back floorboard (double cab). I only use it when I have to leave the truck and cannot carry inside. When I return, I retrieve the pistol and go about my business so, the lock box isn't really subject to the "quick draw" argument.

Regarding the actual security of a lock box inside a vehicle, nothing is secure in a home, vehicle, or otherwise. If someone wants it badly enough they will get it. However, I learned years ago about civil liability. If you leave a gun in the truck unsecured OR, in your home unsecured, and the gun is stolen and used in the commission of a crime YOU may be exposed to civil liability (lawsuit). You are required to make a reasonable effort to secure the weapon in any environment. There have been many debates as to whether or not a glove box constitutes reasonable effort but, a lock box made for firearm storage qualifies and protects you from liability.

That’s not true. I live in one of the most strict states when it comes to gun laws and I’m allowed to carry into a bank. Unless the bank as a prohibited sign on the front door, I’m allowed. Banks aren’t the federal reserve. They are not federally owned. They are private businesses, just federally insured.

Good info. In PA pistols and ammo have to be seperate and unassailable (preferably locked) while in a vehicle unless you have a ccp. Also, one law I recently found out is even with a ccp in PA you can't lawfully have long guns and ammo "together" in the vehicle, meaning they have to be seperated.

Federal reserve isn't a government run entity either.

Very true, but I wouldn't go anywhere near the federal reserve regionally or in dc with a firearm.

What's more interesting is how many people don't know there's 22 states that have open carry laws. (vehicles differ state to state)

Back on topic, under seat safes are great

Ohio is an open carry state. But i wouldnt do it here because its not widely known. Occasionally we get some dumb asses carrying their AR on their shouldr strap to "prove a point."

But, i do want to move to a state where no one will give a shit. My people aren't Ohioans.

While I fully support its legality open carry in public is for assholes to make a statement and put a target on their back. Concealed carry is for legit protection.

I totally get open carry if you’re in the woods or on a ranch or something but that’s totally different from Walmart.
