only trespassing on private property if you are asked to leave and don't

    big distinction there

not advocating to carry somewhere you're asked not to

    just saying !!!

So, that's one state. Good to know. I don't carry when I'm going to drink and don't generally buy the overpriced drinks in restaurants.

Other states have far different laws. If one is going to travel and carry, then it's important to understand the laws of each state.

In states with binding signage the sign itself can be considered notification.

Texas has several different kinds of sign. Some are contained in the firearms licensing law, but some are from the alcohol licensing laws. Someone noted the Texas red signs that are posted on establishments that make 51% or more of their money from the sale of alcohol. That's a felony, but the "blue" signs are misdemeanors.

So aside from discussing various gun laws of the states, how about under-seat firearm storage?

I haven’t read the entire thread yet but I wanted to plug Hornady Security and SnapSafe, who both have done neat, new, compact units for securing firearms in the vehicle.

I happened to lookup Virginia since that's the state he was referencing and as far as private property is concerned from what I found you need to be asked to leave to for it to be considered trespassing. If someone can cite a source otherwise (for Virginia) I'll gladly edit my comment as I'm not trying to spread misinformation. Good to know in Texas there are different types of signs.

in virginia a law enforcement officer can arrest any one on posted land

the initial sign usually posted at the entrance is enuf

    without further coversation or notice

the obvious written notice is enuf

in the event Ur ib a donut shop

& asked to leave................could be disturbing the peace

    elevated to tresspassing

we are NOT allowed loaded carry at gun shows

several main line gunshops DO NOT allow Carry

I live in the state capital if U want to be a test case

    please excersize Ur opinion

You've made a lot of assertions, so maybe you could point us to a citation or two.

1st i NEVER mentioned private property

in this state land & property properly signed in MOST cases U will be detained

    likely arrested

recent mandate by the mayor of the capital city ( ink hasnt dried on this one )

if there is a govt ( any !! ) function even on otherwise commercial / public property

if within 25 feet of that land .......building........function

U are Breaking the LAW................very similar to school zones

so if U are on the same block......next door or dealing with a street vendor

essentially NOT participating in the function

U are breaking the law unaware the venue in ? was rented out for hours Or just the day

as i prev mentioned.................the ink has NOT dried on this one

as Our Annum for laws is july

would appear chicago.........richmond .......charlotte pass them until CHALLENGED !!

    What about:

Was that not a reference to private property?

Was 'posted land' not a reference to private property as well? Then you mentioned a donut shop? If you're referring to government owned buildings or schools then maybe you can be more clear in your language.

The penis showing contest is boring. I’m more surprised by nobody commenting that nobody needs one instead there’s a debate on interpreting their own states laws.. it’s everyone’s own responsibility to know and understand their states laws and any other state they are traveling to. This has been a great example of contact the state for their specific laws instead of asking social media

Civilians can carry on a local military base without additional permission as long as they follow state law.

Not sure what you mean by double speak. I merely stated you would only be trespassing on private property with public access such as a retail business if you were told to leave and then refused.

For those interested, these are the online sources I could find:

    https://www.uslawshield.com/concealed-weapon-panic-virginia/
If a private property owner or persons responsible for that property asks an individual carrying a firearm to leave, then that individual must leave or he or she may be prosecuted for trespassing.

    https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.01/
Contains Virginia code which states that a ccw permit does not authorize the possession of any handgun or other weapon on property or in places where such possession is otherwise prohibited by law or is prohibited by the owner of private property.

Interestingly, the punitive section linked to the above code is found here: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308/ This code specifically addresses unlawful carrying concealed but states that a ccw permit is an affirmative defense for such a charge.

This document https://handgunlaw.us/states/virginia.pdf states that even with a permit, Private property when prohibited by the owner of the property, or where posted as prohibited. Violation is a trespass charge and not a firearms violation. But if you continue to read the document, you'll see this: “No Firearm” signs in Virginia have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry. If you are in a place not specifically mentioned in the law that is posted and they ask you to leave, you must leave. If you refuse to leave then you are breaking the law and can be charged." The document recommends not to carry into such as establishment to begin with as do I but that's another topic.

Finally, although this document is from the Attorney General of West Virginia, it highlights exactly what I'm saying: https://ago.wv.gov/gunreciprocity/Documents/On The Mark (2020) 8.pdf While it is not a crime to carry a firearm onto property where firearms are otherwise prohibited by the owner, lessee or other person charged with care, custody and control thereof, refusal to relinquish the weapon or refusal to leave the premises upon request while in possession of a firearm or other deadly weapon is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 and/or up to 6 months in jail.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no debate unless someone can cite a source in contrast to what I've stated. @ROAD DOG if you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to start a thread in the Guns and Hunting subforum where it would be more appropriate and I'll meet you over there: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/guns-hunting.24/
