As if applying woolwax now and then not reapplying religiously every year, would be worse than doing nothing at all…

Here in Canada, we have Krown Rustproofing which is one of the best in the business. They do the whole truck, not just the frame. Maybe you have it there too, I don't know.

Regardless, like mentioned, get the yearly spray, not the one time application stuff. It dries out and rust gets behind it.

WoolWax is great and absolutely doesn’t have to be applied every year unless you want to protect the high wash areas. I applied it once and after two Michigan winters, it looks like new in all the enclosed areas. I still hit the front of my axle and similar forward facing areas just because it’s easy and not very time consuming. I also don’t find it all that messy.

i think I misunderstood the previous post. Yeah I plan to touch it up as needed, but assume that doing it once and neglecting it for a few years is still better than not doing it all.

You’ll be much farther ahead than most if you do a single application and touch it up
after a couple of years. It really does last a good amount of time on the most important parts.

Woolwax, touch up as needed. Done.
I know you mentioned youd prefer to have it professionally done initially.
But touch ups could always be done with maybe 2-3 cans annually and just a little bit of your time. I dont see any reason to go pay someone again.
I can confirm its really not messy or smelly.
    Good choice on the WW.

Yep I decided it was worth it to me to shell out the money now to have it done by the pros to ensure it get’s a good coating everywhere, all the nooks and cranny, etc., and then I’ll just touch it up as needed on my own.

Wool Wax. Five harsh, salty New England winters. Annual coating of Wool Wax. No rust.

It’s soft-ish. Definitely no cracking or chipping. It’s almost like a waxy substance that’s a little more maleable. I believe iirc it will “heal” itself if there’s a small chip since it will expand and is kind of oily. Seems good so far after two winters and touch ups. I saw an old fj cruiser who had it on for about ten years. Looked mint. That shop does good work

Its better than nothing at all, but if you don't keep up with it every year you'll have nothing. Some as myself don't like repeating the same job every year reason for applying a coating that will not wash away after a winter. This woolwax, or fluid flim is great to shops in business that do this, but its not for everyone.

Did you say that you're having a shop applying Woolwax? Curious to know who it is, if so.

Everything within striking distance of the DMV (Washington DC metro area) is spendy. What some in this thread don't understand that $500 in this general area goes about as far as $300 outside of major metro areas.

Fo' sho'. I'm just curious where it is because I could only ever find the one place. Heck, even they quoted around $1k.

It’s Automotive Protection Services in Fairfax. They were actually less expensive than a place out in Front Royal who wanted $500. I’m also getting window tint done at APS.

Ah. They seem a decent place. They've been in that location for 35 years or more. I'll guess it's the same owners as when they did the Ziebart.

Yes they seem to have a great reputation. I’m dropping my truck off tomorrow. I
will report back after I pick it up.

Your not far off from what i do also, but i see a lot of mud, water, slush, and all kinds of salt/brine which would be history to any lanolin based rust inhibiter.

I picked the truck up today, everything looks good, except it looks like some cavity wax got over-sprayed on the outside, especially around the front windows and side view mirrors. Any tips on cleaning this stuff off the body paint and rubber window seals?
