looking to get the frame to my 2010 undercoated.
theres rust currently on the frame. and id like to stop and protect it so it doesnt continue.
i know theres the traditional undercoating, however my friend suggested we go to this place in Vermont who does oil coating.
now one this is id like to cover and protect the rust on the frame and have the whole frame look black. because it makes the frame look new.
i saw a tacoma last night, NY truck for sale trd sport 2009 with 59k and the frame looked new. im assuming that it was just undercoated.

what is the better option to do?
im not looking to do this myself as im looking to take it somewheres to get done.
i heard the traditional undercoating is crappy because it allows water to get under the frame. and salt and that leads to rust.
    is this true?

how good is this oil treatment in comparrison to the normal undercoat?

    let me know

heres a pic of the frame of the truck from last night

Check out Nick's thread. That was in RI. I think he did it last year. If you have specifics on his undercoat, I am sure he would respond

I used these guys in NH.

    http://nhoilundercoating.com/

They have multiple solutions, I only wish they were closer but it was worth the trip.

    Edit:

Sorry about the sideway picture upload:

now im looking at this place in vermont they charge $120. and said its oil coating. not framilar with it.
would i still see the rust and it would just be protected?? because i honestly would like mine all sanded and protected and covered black so it looks much nicer.

Op, spend 5 mins reading about traditional undercoating.

Then spend 5 mins reading about fluid film, krown rust protection, etc.

    It's worth your time.

    Getting there...
If you have the time, wire wheel the rust off, apply some sort of rust converter/encapsulator, then repaint it with some chassis paint. Afterwards, coat it with Fluid Film. It's a wax based product, probably similar to the oil undercoats you'd pay for at a shop. You'll have to touch it up, but it does a great job keeping your frame from rusting. The problem with dry/solid undercoats is that if it isn't applied perfectly or is damaged (cracks, chips, etc), moisture will get under it and between the frame, rusting it anyways without you being able to see it. Using something like Fluid Film keeps moisture away from your frame and won't crack or chip. If you notice it thinning/wearing out, just power wash it off and reapply.

    From FF website:
Eureka Chemical Company has conducted extensive testing on its products since its inception in the early 1940's, when Dr. Herman Hess, Eureka's founder and chemist created the revolutionary formulation of FLUID FILM. FLUID FILM's unique wool-wax formula has been used in various forms beginning with the U.S. Navy on Ships during World War II to protect against corrosion of steel from salt air and salt water. In 1953, military specifications MIL-R-21006 and MIL-C-23050 were issued by the military for FLUID FILM Liquid A and Gel BW respectively. Today, FLUID FILM has probed the depths of the sea and space, being effectively utilized by nuclear submarines to its exclusive use on the space shuttle. FLUID FILM's WRO product is specified under MIL-PRF-18458C, and its aerosol exceeds MIL-C-16173. The company has stuck to its decision to remain solvent free, manufacturing the highest grade of rust/corrosion preventives and lubricants on the market today.

Just dont spray your frame with FF over your driveway. It'll be an ice skating rink for a month:D

I use fluid film. Just remember that it never drys and you need to reapply it because it gradually wears off. Annual maintenance will keep the rust away. Great product!

Oil coating works. I would spray oil inside the box areas that can't be reach. Oil flows and will get to more crevices then Ff. I would then have the out side of the frame that you can see coated with FF. I would not put FF inside of the box areas but oil there. Rust starts from the inside as much as from outside.....that's where the oil goes. Also, oil inside doors fron drain holes and rear quarters and front fenders through engine compartment. Spray inside of rear bumper and body panels you can reach from underneath
