I live in Maine and our roads are as bad as any in the winter. I will be using fluid film.

Stay away from Ziebart! I live in NY as well and had that crap on my 4Runner, it will rust underneath. I used Krown after doing some research. It was a toss up between Krown and Fluid Film, both seemed to work well. Krown was easier to find nearby than Fluid Film.

Hey Guys. I'm a first timer here, thinking about Fluid Film to do my 2016 Taco here in Pennsylvania. I don't have access to an air compressor and don't wanna spend a ton of money on this. Am I wrong to say I could buy 6 cans and do both the wife's new RAV 4 and My Taco? Can I just get under the truck and start spraying or is the some things that I should avoid spraying? I think I have read about not spraying this stuff on rubber? Thanks in advance!

Fluid film is safe on rubber. I cover any and all exposed metal and the battery terminals. I think last year I used about 4 cans worth of it and I also picked up a gallon of it that I painted on to the diff and frame rails with a foam brush. make sure you hit all the frame holes too, to get inside of the frame.

Before you do it try to clean the underside of the truck as much as possible with water, degreaser, and a wash brush.

Also, it has a weird smell. Not chemical, but just an odd smell that'll last for a few days

Nothing wrong with rubberized treatments. In fact most manufactures use them. They don't use them for the entire underbody but spot touch and use along seems. However for it to work most effectively you must put it on when the vehicle is new. Also I would recommend recoating every few years depending on the product used and how much salt is in your area. However usually after 2-3 coats you should really need anymore as it will be thick enough. Just do an inspection every year and touch up any little areas that need treatment with a spray can. As for using it on the Frame it can be effective but again the best time to treat is when new and clean. Fully boxed frames it's nearly impossible to coat fully. If you wanted to use the rubberized treatment I would spray the outside and portions of the unboxed frame with the rubberized and then get a angle tube nozzle and spray the inside of the box part of the frame to try and coat the area missed. Easy to clean the truck as well. Simply power wash and your good

A lot of people swear by the fluid film but I personally don't care much for it. The shit gets all over you when your working on it, you need to reapply ever year, and it builds up dirt and grim over time. People say this adds protection but it can also trap salt and water and when the film wear out then you basically have a clump of salt contained from caked on to your frame which is gonna eat at it faster. Fluid film if you do some off-roading or want to spray your truck frame and underbody out each time your taking more and more fluid film with it. Anything high pressure will easily talk off a lot of film diminishing your protection after as little as a couple washes.

Everyone has a preference however. And we could debate this topic all day.

I buy fluid film by the gallon and spray it on with a Wagner type sprayer. 2 gallons will give you plenty. The spray cans seem to clog up.

I live north of you in Ontario, Canada. We use salt and sand in our neck of the woods, but I know from travelling in upstate NY during the winter that they use that Devil piss on your highways. That stuff is nasty!

I use Krown rustproofing treatment every fall and when it wears off, I then repaint the frame with Krylon Industrial Rust Tough (satin black) in the summer. I also touch up during the winter with Krown or Rust Check spray cans.

My 2012 undercarriage and suspension look virtually new.
