I have a similar tool set that I would love to have in my truck, but my access cab doesn't have storage behind the rear seats. So instead, I just carry a small socket set and a few wrenches and screwdrivers.

OP, I like your creativity. I like my stuff organized as well, and this is a great idea!

I swear by these tool rolls. I have several of them- 1 in my truck, 1 in my company vehicle, a couple for my home tools. Keeps tools from sliding around loose, can organize by tool type into dedicated pouches, rolls up & has a carry handle, & there are two metal loops that allow you to hang the bag on a wall or from your headrests. I kept it in rear underseat storage initially but I often have my seats folded down to carry extra gear, so access was a bit problematic. After I installed a Prinsu rack, I moved the tool roll to one of my rooftop Pelican cases for easy access. I don’t bother with full tool kits- instead I build a custom kit of loose tools with sizes for fasteners on the vehicle and a few adjustable tools to fit other things I may encounter.

While I do like the foam tool kit shadowing -we did this with our Consolidated Tool Kits in the USAF- I simply don’t find it necessary for this application. Sure, shadowing keeps loose tools from rolling around, but the real idea behind it stems from aviation protocols; idea being that with one quick glance, you can see if any of your tools are missing from your kit. Those of us who’ve worked with nuclear weapons or aircraft know that all tools shall be accounted for when backing out. A left-behind tool can bring down an aircraft or compromise nuclear hardness.

The shadowbox foam is a great for organizing tooling however, it wastes a great deal room in an already small space. In my opinion, tool bags or small tool pouches are a much better idea.

No such thing as cheap tools when you are in a bind.
