Underwhelmed with a 2010 DC TRD OR

    Took a 2010 TRD OR DC for a test drive yesterday. I got in the truck and felt like I was driving a car. Ride was super smooth and really low to the ground. Granted I am confident.i g from a Ranger with a 6" lift rolling on 35" tires. Do the rides in newer models ride differently than 2010? Thinking I just need to put a lift and different suspension on one to really make it feel like my stiff truck now. Any suggestions?

    it was definitely a offroad you sure of that? did it have a locker and inverter?

    Obviously it's going to sit lower and ride different than your ranger with a 6" lift and 35" tires...

    Personally I don't think the 3rd gen drive that much different.

    Yep it had the buttons for the locker and inverter. Had the OR stickers on back. But the one thing that threw me was the autocheck sheet he printed out said Tacoma SR5 on it. Is there an SR5 off road edition?

    all offroads are sr5.they ride great stock. a lift will change it some depending on what type of lift you put on it

    They are tuned a bit softer. The Sport will ride more stiff.

    coming from the factory the second gen's do have a car feel to them on how they drive, but it will change once you start modifying the suspension. My first gen has more of a truck feel to it than my 08 and is probably why I drive it so much more still.

    That's not to say the Sport rides rough. It does not. But it does have a bit more of a taunt, controlled ride.....assuming the dampers are healthy

    I was thinking I should stick with an OR. Only for the fact that I do like to do a fair bit of driving on sand @ Silver Lake sand dunes in Michigan. Thought the locker would help if I got stuck. Sounds like I'm going to have to lift it 3" and put different shocks in it.

    The OR suspension is softer than the Sport and standard SR5 suspensions. I was concerned about that when I bought mine but learned to really appreciate the feature when offroad and driving rough roads.

    My 06 drives like a glorified station wagon. It's stock. The mod$$ is modding the kids teeth with braces. :D

    I believe the OR and SR5 share the same suspension. IIRC, there was only 2 6 lug suspensions for leafs and coils. Base/SR5/OR had the same coils and the same leaf packs. The Sport had different coils and different leafs (4 leaf instead of 3 until 2014MY when they all went to the same 4 leaf packs).

    The only real difference was shock absorbers.

    TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
    The off road does have different coils that the SR5.

    Source? Just curious.

    First time I've heard it and don't remember seeing a coil weight variation in technical data outside of the two I referenced above (Sport/all others).

    What's the difference in an SR5 and an OR coil?

    I thought the sr5 coil was the same as OR too. the sport was a stiffer spring cause it's a sport suspension

    Maybe the shocks on the 2010 OR are worn out. Mine were super soft at 70k but replaced them and much stiffer. The Ranger probably has newer shocks if it's lifted. My dad had a Ranger once the miles add up on those it wasn't worth fixing. The Tacos seem to hold up better hence the higher resale. happy hunting.

    No stock Tacoma is going to ride like a Ranger on 35s and a 6" lift.
