Have a 2015 4.0 and I recently noticed that I have to depress the brake pedal a bit farther before the truck begins to brake. When the brakes do engage there is an on/off sensation with the brake engagement (feels like the brakes engage for 1/2 of the rotors rotation then don't stop as well for the other 1/2 of the rotors rotation). The truck as comes to a more abrupt stop at the end of braking then you anticipate. Any suggestions of where to start to diagnosis this? Fluid level is ok and pads/rotors look like they are still good.

What I’d do. Jack it up onto stands so all 4 tires are off the ground. Need 2 people, spin each tire, very lightly press the brake pedal and hold it there, press more and hold if necessary, you’ll find the sweet spot where it’ll spin then suddenly grab without pressing the pedal in further. It might just be 1 or 2 wheels it happens to. Now you know which to investigate further.

Bought the truck with about 40k miles and have 80k now and have never changed the brakes. Was thinking maybe I should just replace them? What would cause the uneven wear of the rotor or pads?

What you’re describing kinda sounds like either uneven pads or you might have some grease or oil on a rotor.
If you don’t know if you’ve had any brake work in 80k, it’s due.

I wouldn’t replace anything until I looked at it, in most cases.
