I have no idea what could be the issue with my tacoma’s breaks. So I am about to have to go and replace my front driver’s side brake caliper and pad for the third time in the 6 years I’ve had it. Every time I get it replaced it’s feels fine. Then I start to get pull to the left. And then I check the breaks and the passengers side breaks and the pistons on that side only are sort of frozen and are not returning to the non-brake position. So brakes wear unnecessarily on that side. The pistons are rusted looking and don’t seem to operate like they should. And my fluid is dirty. Like I said I have had to replace that brake 3 times now in six years and I have no idea why that brake wears so quickly. I also have a new master cylinder and booster. The only thing could think that would have an effect is that my abs is disabled. I damaged a sensor connect to abs and never replaced it since brakes seemed to work fine without it. Ideas...suggestions?

    welcome !

Brakes should always be done both sides if your replacing calipers do left and right.

What brand Calipers are you using that could be part of the issue.

Crushed brake lines can cause the pistons to not retract properly

Rubber hoses one ballooning not allowing enough fluid to that caliper can cause uneven braking .

Pads hanging up on the pins can cause uneven wear

Brake fluid should be clean if yours is dirty it can cause you problems

ABS should not be causing your problems with only a failed sensor

Agree with all of Wyoming 09's good advice, but I have a few questions. Why is your fluid dirty if you have a new booster/MC? Are the lines really worn and deteriorated, possibly ballooning(look for bulges in the rubber sections). Why are you not replacing the RH caliper if it is "frozen" and "rusted"? I think you only mention replacing the LH side.

However, your description is a bit confusing with regard to which side you have been replacing. In the beginning you say replacing the drivers side, but then later you describe passenger side as rusty and frozen and then say you have had to replace "that side" 3 times. It sounds like your passenger side is not working and you are just wearing out the drivers side, but I can't be sure. Like the man said, never replace just one side at a time. unless they are both fairly new and one gets damaged somehow, not from normal wear.

Also, please give us a break and say "brake". :)
