I just spent hours reading all over on this subject but I can't find a direct answer to for my question...will stock ucas cause uneven tire wear up front. I'm getting a funky choppy wear on my driver side front tire ( 33 12.5 Goodyear wrangler duratrac). All the other tires seem to be wearing correct ( at least I can't see the chop from across my parking lot.) Ive rotated the tires to narrow down the bad wear and the old front tire has evened out on the back but the new front driver side tire is getting the same chop. 5100 bilstein, with old man emu medium weight coils and I just had a solid alignment front Firestone where they actually did what I wanted (as close to 0 toe, 0 camber and i think like 1.4+ caster) and let me chill in the back while they did it. The lift , coils, and shocks were all new and installed at the same time. Are 12.5 width tires to big for these tacos? I don't rub at all but I have a 1/4 inch clearance between my ucas and inner tire. I am honestly not a huge fan on these duratracs anyway...so like I said, what may be cause this weird wear on my front to driver tire only when all of the suspension and lift were done at one time and all new materials....also my mechanic said ball joints look fine, tie rods are fine, and ALL lifted trucks are going to have play because it's not spec. Sorry for the lengthy rant, thanks for the help

@eccracer104 doesn't this sound like a lower control arm issue? Could be upper control arm bushings also. What does the alignment look like on it?

Could ball joints have a part in this? I know I need new ones just because those have not been done yet.

Stock UCAs will cause alignment props. I have exactly the same coil overs as you on stock UCAs. My alignment problem is a varying positive camber on both sides.
I think there is SLIPPAGE in the alignment aggravated by the stock UCAs when stressed.
I'm going to try and solve it w/ new aftermarket UCAs.

Could be the ball joint also. Is your sway bar still attached?

It could be a lot of things. Check all the rubber components for wear. LCA, UCA, Upper and lower ball joints.

33x12.5 tires are big on a 1st gen, if you look at your truck (or measure) does the drivers side sit lower than the passenger side? Tacomas tend to have a taco lean, and lean towards the drivers side.

Also you said you don't rub but it's chunky wear on the tire? Any chance you could upload a picture of the wear?

OK sounds good...I was wondering if that's too big of a tire for this 1st gen, if I put them on I'd go smaller for sure but this is how I bought it. I will take a picture later when I get home. I would say my tire is cupping from the looks of it. It's just the middle of the tire that is getting uneven and my psi is 33 to 35 on each tire.

I'd also do a chalk test on your tires, you may need to lower the psi. Another thing it could be is a bad Bilstein on the drivers side. It's not controlling the tire well enough and causing the uneven wear.

Like some have already mentioned I would check all rubber parts especially UCA/LCA's. I replaced my UCA/LCA bushings a few months back. When I took off my control arms two of the four lower bushings literally fell out on the ground, which had my alignment way off...

This is basically how my front driver tire is...I couldn't get a good pic of mine but This picture I found is exactly how it looks.

That's usually caused by a toe-in out of alignment.

Maybe even a broken/ or malfunctioning tie rod? Because I just had my toe set to 0 2 weeks ago and it drives great now.

Sorry I just reread your original post. I'd take it back to the alignment shop.

The weird wear has been on it since I bought it I guess. I've had the tires rotated and aligned but. The first Firestone didn't even touch the alignment come to find out because they said they couldn't align it to any other specs other than stock suspension...so then about 2 weeks later I brought it to another shop in my area that gave me the right alignment (with my currents UCAS and such.)

I don't drivethe truck that much right now customers I don't wanna eat my tires up...like I said I rotated front tires to back and the old front driver side is already wearing evenly again and the new one is getting choppy

Sorry I just reread the original post. The other thing could be a worn steering box. It would cause a lot of play and it could act like the toe was wrong.

Is the steering box another name for the rack?

Yes, the rack and pinion. If you have a lot of play you might feel a shimmy in the steering wheel. If it's not to bad there is a way to adjust the backlash and that should tighten it up some

OK so the yellow chalked treads are the lower uneven wearing treads. This exact wear happened on the old front tires before I rotated them. Thsee are the only one of the tires to do this and I've had them on the front for about 2000 miles.

My 2013 is doing pretty much the exact same thing. 5100's on front set to 1 3/4 (or whatever second from highest is) and 31.5" duratracs. Had it aligned after the install and tires wear like shat, except its both of my front tires. You can look at my tires from front of truck and the bottom is noticeably toed in ( not sure if thats toe in or out). Anyway, i always figured i just needed UCA to account for the bad toe. Can anyone confirm that or should they be able to make the stock ones work?
