so i have a 2.7l 5-speed that shuts down while driving down the road. i was driving down the road at about 50-60 and both the battery and oil light began to flicker. when i dropped it in neutral the rpms dropped and the truck shut down. i noticed some milky/frothy oil at the top of the oil cap and at the PCV. However after the trucked had been sitting for a day i drained about a quart out of the bottom and it looked clean. i replaced the PCV valve without any luck and the problem persisted. the truck isn't overheating but i think this might be a head gasket problem. Could anyone help me out here? id like to find the true problem before i just start tearing down the engine, Thanks.

You may have 2 separate issues there. The part about the oil and battery light makes me think you may have a failing alternator. Combined with something else. Any engine codes?

^This. Alternator is done for. Small chance you have a bad pos+ cable/ connection. I wouldn't drive it until you check your connections or/& have another ALT in hand. Save yourself a tow ($$).

The frothy oil cap is moisture building up in the crankcase from constant short trips.

^ This. And have you tested the new alternator to make sure it's supplying power? It's not common, but some aftermarket alternators can prematurely fail.

I had a band new alt fail in less than 500 feet of driving. 14.6v to 0v during the test drive around the block.
