I think they modifying the MAF voltage for fuel and the cam position sensor voltage for timing and I believe they are both 0-5V...
The problem so far is you can't exceed what the computer thinks is normal voltage...
and of course the max adjustment is 5 volts.... I think that's enough for a N/A truck...

    Unichip update

So the unichip is not over riding the computer in closed loop...
It is intercepting the MAF sensor like the maf cal....
so you can only cheat the fuel in closed loop but like the maf cal the computer will still attempt to go back to 14.7...
Dash command is still working with the unichip...
With the std switch the truck has to be turned off for 5-10 seconds before you change maps or it will keep running the same map...
Now I can see the different trims and F/A ratios...
My economy map runs between 14.7 - 15.2..
My power map 14.7 - 13 in closed loop, according to dash command...
The unichip has a limit of 4.9 volts output and I'm running 4.2 at wot, so I'm well within the limits....

The timing is adjustable at all rpms but is limited buy range of the computer...
Doesn't matter that much because the truck will only take about 8 degrees of timing anyway...
I'm cheating low load and going to 12 degrees..
I'm setting the timing up for 87 oct winter gas so I have worse case covered...
With extra fuel 87 oct is about all you need, at the dunes I may mix in 30% 93 oct...

There is a map for TPS but I'm not sure if it changes the TPS or the total MAF voltage, but you can feel the difference....

In your opinion. Would you say to still buy a UNICHIP or just go with the URD MAF Calibrator?

I'm not the OP, but to me, as long as you also have the tuning software, it is the easiest option because of plug n play.

    I would get the unichip....
But you have the get the tuning software also and tune it...
If you are on a budget get the maf cal... best mod for $200...
Either way you have to set up your map, for your truck, fuel, area and mods...

It's nice having the extra timing, it runs much smoother and part throttle is much better...
Over 3000 rpm it really pulls good, power feels much more consistent...

    UPDATE

I officially tuned out the check engine light...
I had to slow down my ignition map, but it runs better so it's a win win...

I'm happy and think it's a good buy....
Tuning is easy but you do have to understand tuning a little bit...
The stock maps don't do much, they have to be set up for your truck...

I have been running the Unichip as well for quite some time. I was N/A and found it to work well. I am now turbocharged and have continued to use it.
I am seeing some boost as this is a new setup. I am still very cautious. I think the Unichip works well for what it is and I am glad to see you experimenting with it as well.
I am no longer alone! I hope I can get the truck dialed in with the Unichip, if not I'm going to attempt a parallel installation using a Haltech Elite 2500.

One issue I have come across has been at very low throttle position the throttle kind of goes "dead". Have you experienced this at all?
I may start with a clean map because I have done some serious tinkering and may have changed something I shouldn't have....

Finally found a dyno but only Mon through Fri. Need to get on it. T

Trying to find a way to force open loop early or always. Any ideas? Obviously can't tune closed loop but boost is on before open loop so running a bit lean at some points. I rather be rich so...not beating on it though.

Possibly with the MAF CAL with the MAP sensor.

With the Unichip, I have no idea.

Unichip makes a "turbo module" which allows for switching maps when it sees boost. Basically a map sensor that switches the fuel map...

Not sure how well that would work with the factory ECU trying to get to 14.7 in closed loop no matter what....

Thinking of using their "full throttle" map to force full throttle/open loop early in the load profile...

But to be honest the truck runs pretty darn good for every day "normal" driving...

    Sweet truck...
I like the UNICHIP not perfect but ok for plug and play...
Maybe your base adjustments are off, you need to use the accel feature for low rpm before the turbo comes on or tweak the TPS map for low rpm... I'm not having any dead pedal issue but at first it felt a little soft... On my frs after a reflash I turn the ignition on cycle the gas pedal 10 times and turn it off to reset the computer...
You may want to look into the URD AFR Sensor Calibrator for closed loop with the turbo... I'm still running my the unichip with my maf cal until I have time to convert the map over and it works fine...

Here are my fuel map settings... Still stock...
You can also cheat in some extra timing below load of 4,( maybe not this much with a turbo) because the 4.0 it a little flat at low rpm with the stock computer...
    upload_2016-3-15_17-27-36.jpg

Go into extras for the accel feature. I haven't tried it yet...

I would add fuel in closed loop for sure with a turbo... You want to keep it in negative trim so it will bounce from rich to 14.7 not from lean to 14.7... You can't maintain more fuel but you can cheat some extra fuel in, better then too lean...
But with a turbo may be best to control the closed loop better...
I think the fuel map is remapping the MAF like the maf cal... so mapping the fuel map may help get you to open loop faster but you still need to control closed loop...

I think the AFR CAL may be the cheapest way and if it works as good as the maf cal I wouldn't hesitate...
They also have a O2 sensor cal, I don't know which one works best you would have to contact gadget at URD...

Thanks for all the info. I'll check that extra stuff out. I have been cheating the closed loop but I can still see 5lbs at 14.7 which is not terrible as I'm pulling 7 degrees of timing but I would prefer much richer for sure. I will take some screen shots of my map later and add an ODB log for reference too.

I think you can use one of the optional map or extra tab on your unichip to alterate lambda signal in close loop.
