Do newer Unimogs have air-conditioning, and at a bare minimum an AM/FM radio?

Ran into this German fellow a couple years ago, here in Nova Scotia. He couldn't speak English very well, but he understood that I was complimenting him on his camper, lol. My Taco in the back for size reference.

My cousin worked is a park ranger and worked for a while at Glen Canyon National Park in Utah. One time, he saw this Mitsubishi Fuso (I think; May have been an Isuzu NPR) with a camper on the back, at the boat launch. This rig was lifted, 4-wheel drive, and basically a motorhome on steroids...

These people supposedly came from Australia!

How did the German guy get his camper to Nova Scotia?

We have a small Unimog (1960), that the boss had "restored" I've driven it in a couple parades - it sucked...to small cab for an old fat guy and constant clutching at 2 mph. The other issue is the boss only had body and bed redone, forgot about the little 29 HP gas motor, that soon blew up. My vehicle manager wants to put a jeep engine in it, I'm not a huge fan of that idea unless we also go with an auto tranny. Bottom line this vehicle is a show/parade car it is never going to "work" on the mountain again, but it is really cool looking. I'll post photos mañana.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm by no means an anti Unimoger, I was in Moab once for a Unimog rally and it was A-freakin-amazing how many different "Mogs" were about. But our little rig either needs to be parked as a show piece or parked as a show piece. Note so our Mog has double tranny low-low range. I went on line to see just how to shift and run the dang thing and in low, low, low the speed is 100 meters per hour. IMØ that is negative warp speed. Blogs state UniMogs were designed to go that low with brush hog mowers on front.

You could buy military surplus HMMWVs at auction from time to time. This was a limited number of USMC 1025/1026 that were a special case. AM Generals contract said that the military could not sell any of the HMMWV variants to the public.

The USMC was working a procurement contract and started running out of funding. So, a number of trucks were transferred to the contractor as payment for use as security and test vehicles. That company in turn sold the trucks at auction when they reached their service life. Since the contractor was not bound by AM General's rule, they got away with it. AM General quickly had that loophole closed.

    Enter recent times.

The military is moving away from the platform, and with AM General out of business... bring on the public auctions.

The trucks are DEMIL-Q and require a EUC. But with the paperwork you can title and street register them as your state allows.

End User Certificate... basically a background check to make sure you are not a supplier for bad people.

The irony here is that the "bad people" you'd think would be interested in Humvees are interested in Toyota Hiluxes!

Yep. The made me complete a EUC for a trailer. Part of DEMIL-Q is to keep foreign agents (good or bad) from obtaining our surplus gear without going through the "proper" channels. Wasn't aware an M116 was that much of a threat to national security... or turtle mountain manufacturing.

These rules were put in place to keep us and our country safe, but most of the time they only succeed in pissing us off!

I'd take a Cabela's Mog Back before BPS bought them out.

Anyone see the Mog on a rock, west side of the highway heading down from Cancun to Playa del Carmen?

Every time we pass, I want it more and more.

I've been keeping my eye out for one of the surplus engineering vehicles built on the Mog... without the gizmos.

    I'd rather have an Illtis.

I'm not sure about this guy, but another time I was talking to another German couple who were having thier RV shipped over, and they were going to drive it from here, all over north america.
I'm guessing that guy had it shipped over somehow, although I doubt it would fit in a container! Maybe they have a spot in the holds of some of the container ships?

I was living out of my VW bus at the time and had a lot of money to spare. I had been looking at a 710k, which wouldn't have been much bigger than the bus I was in. I just wanted a little more room, but the 712k's weren't really available yet. There was only one that I knew of and it wasn't for sale. I was also looking at a Unimog 404 with a radio box on the back at the same time. My roommate at the time was friends with the guy who created https://expedition-imports.com/ and their inventory wasn't far from where we were living, so I got a bunch of chances to see them side by side and talk with the guys who worked on them. Ultimately, with no Pinz 712k's coming down the pipeline and the low, low speed of the 404's I wound up going with a Tacoma and a new tent. The newer U1300 and U405 mogs are HUGE compared to a Pinz. You'd have no problem driving a Pinz around town.

The US Govt is currently auctioning off their "Freightliner" rebadged Unimog 419's. They're a very short wheelbase truck that come with a bucket scoop and backhoe. It'd make a good farm truck, especially if you started collecting all the PTO driven tools that they make for them.

You can drive foreign vehicles in the US 30 days without permit. Longer with permission/visa.
