I would say they probably just have to pay more for a permit if it was not compliant.

My dad was in the Navy for 25 years. He worked at the Pentagon from 2003-2005 and we lived in the Northern Virginia DC suburbs. One time we were on the highway, and I saw a right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz van with Virginia plates! There are very few vehicles I've never heard of and would not immediately recognize on sight, but I knew Mercedes didn't sell any vans smaller than a Sprinter in the United States. However, this van had Virginia plates! If the steering wheel being on the right side wasn't evidence enough, the license plate mounts were clearly designed for European plates...

Yes, but your state shares a border with Mexico. It's easy to just drive a vehicle over the border...

Not as easy (or cheap) to get a Euro-spec vehicle across the ocean!

Honestly, I'd be more wary of a Mexican vehicle in the states then a European one...

The one I saw on the Fairfax County Parkway (with Virginia plates) 15 years ago was a Mercedes-Benz V220...

While in Oklahoma City with my dad almost 4 years ago, I saw a Chevy truck with Jalisco (Mexico) plates!

I have a RHD classic mini parked in what used to be a hot tub gazebo on my patio.

Moved from a house with a 978sqft heated garage to a just bigger than 2-car. Needed a place to store the mini for the winters till we get the garage expansion done.

My ex-girlfriend's dad registered an RHD Mini registered in North Carolina...

James, this would be the same ex-girlfriend who farted in my truck on the first date!

I know I've seen wheels like those in the States before!

Do you think it's a legit Mexican-spec truck, or an American-spec one that somebody brought into Mexico?

I wasn't mad at her, but the smell was overpowering! She ate prunes before I picked her up!

In Canada, I think anything older than 15 years, can be brought in legally to own over here. See alot of young kids driving right hand drive Subaru's, civics, skylines. Although I don't see the draw to it, especially with the civics and Subaru's, since you can get them here anyway.

JDM cars always have a bit more under the hood than North America-spec ones...

They officially sold original Skylines in Canada?!?!

We brought ours, my wife's really, from Japan when we moved back. Took about 6mo to get the title and plates from MN, but she's registers and insured.

You can switch them RHD and back in about 2hr. The hardest part is the steering rack. You have to drop the front subframe, pull it, flip over and bolt back together. Everything else swaps right over. All holes are already there. Even the wipers move over.

No, they never sold skylines here, that's why I can understand someone importing a RHD skyline here. What I can't understand, is why someone would import a RHD civic and Subaru, even if the euro spec ones had a little more balls.
