EDIT: T-SB-0148-16 was released 10/16 to address this issue.

    EDIT 3/25/16:
My truck has been repaired. As of now Toyota does not know the exact component that is causing the problem but their solution is to replace the combo meter. I assume this also means that they don't know for 100% certainty the replacement part is faultless but I guess the odds are in their favor. Since as of this date there have been at least two trucks that have had this procedure done, those experiencing this problem should be able to take their vehicles in for service and when the dealership contacts Toyota they should be advised on the repair needed. The repair involves dropping the truck off at the dealership, having them record the odometer reading and then they order the replacement part which has to have the same odometer reading. The vehicle must remain at the dealership while awaiting for the new part to arrive to ensure no more miles are put on the truck to maintain odometer accuracy. This takes a couple of days. Considering the expense and somewhat difficult troubleshooting I am satisfied Toyota's response.

EDIT: For anyone having this problem please see post #106.

Took a short drive somewhere, parked for about 90 minutes. Started truck and my trip meters were both showing zero. I noticed it right away because my tank mpg was at zero instead of 22.8 where it was when I shut the truck off. Trip A had about 120 miles and trip B just a few short of the odometer which is close to 1200 miles.

Anyone have a good explanation of how this could have occurred without me pushing in that little meter selection stem?

I haven't tried it yet, but I see a clear / reset trip data option in the eco app. Could be related if you were playing around in there.

Nope, just got in, started the engine and noticed my tank avg. mpg was 0. I called Toyota just to open a case file in the event others start having a similar issue.

I had this happen once. No idea. Was just driving along, but I was playing with the display options of the small screen (moving the arrows around), so I chalked it up to having pushed some kind of reset sequence.

I have had this happen twice now.
The first time I didn't notice until I realized I had gone more than 4 miles on my current tank; was parked for maybe 10 minutes.
The second time, I noticed an odd jump in the needles, then the ODO/Trip option was showing the ODO when I almost always keep the Trip A displayed. This time I was parked for about 35 minutes.

Annoying when you actually want to use the Trip meters for something. I installed my Ultraguage now as a backup trip meter :)

Totally unrelated but I have a 2005 Duramax that resets the engine hours every hundred or so. I have 140k on the odometer and 90 hours on the motor...

I use trip A all the time.
If you wouldn't mind could you call Toyota and start a case file so that know this is happening to people? So maybe it can get some attention.

Mine did it again this morning. Same deal. Drove about 7 miles. Truck was parked for about 90 minutes. Restart and trips and tank avg. MPG are at 0.

Again, please let Toyota and your dealer know. I am dropping my truck off Monday at the dealership though I suspect they won't have a fix yet. They need to know so they can start working on a solution.

My truck spent the day at the dealer today. As expected they couldn't find any issues. The service writer guy seemed to take an interest in the problem and didn't just dismiss me or my concerns as being something in my own mind. I told him at pick up I expected they wouldn't find anything but just wanted to get this in front of them and Toyota in case more cases start popping up. They opened a case file with Toyota (in addition to my own case file). I bought this truck at a different dealer but they they treated me well none the less.

Hopefully this thread dies and no one else (including me) has this problem (again).

As I stated in post #13 the dealer was not able to find any problem, as expected. After the two consecutive days that I had the problem (once each day) the problem has not occurred again.

It could be something like that, where after some period an update or resetting takes place but, I would thing Toyota would be able to tell the dealership techs that when they call and ask WTF is going on?

I just had a thought. What if the button was slightly sticking or basically on the tolerance of it being "on" / depressed. So after some use it basically breaks in from being so new and no further issues are found. I have experienced that myself before.
