Previous owner had Pep Boys(or some janky place) install HID headlights about a month prior to me buying the truck.

    I don’t like them.

I’m blinding everyone and now I notice my right headlight cuts in and outrandomly/sporadically.

I haven’t had the chance to really dive into the installation, I just see the obvious ballasts and wiring.

However I’m not familiar with this mod.

When I go to uninstall the set up is there anything else I need to be aware of? Like anything behind the dash? Relays? I assume the HID wiring is tapped into the stock wiring? So just properly just reconnect the stock wiring?

Any insight into this before I start diving in is appreciated.

First off, great choice, HIDs should not be run in a halogen reflector.

HIDs are sometimes plugged into the stock wiring after the ballast, or use a wiring harness with a relay connected to the battery. If you have wires going from the battery to the headlights you’ll want to remove that wiring harness.

Remove bulbs, remove ballasts, remove relay wiring harness if it exists. That’s all there is to it.

This thread will cover all the proper lighting upgrades for your truck. It is shown in 2nd Gen but 1st Gen uses the same bulbs. Down in the thread there are charts comparing different stock wattage and high wattage options:

    Thank you for the reply.

It was super simple to remove. And all stock sockets/harness unmolested.

I forgot to mention, Ive read that thread of yours many times.

Great thread, incredible knowledge drop. I’ll be sure to go that route when the time comes.

For now I have Sylvania ultras in the halogen housing. I’m sure I’ll be replacing them when they burn out in a few months.
